I’m Charlie Danvoye, I’m 18 years old, and I come from the French-speaking part of Belgium. I’ve just been graduated from high school, and before starting university in Belgium, I wanted to take a gap year, to discover the world, and especially Canada ! 🇨🇦🍁 My goal is
also to get more independent, to meet new people from all around the world, to learn the English, to open my mind… 😀 I’m a very outgoing person, who loves discovering new cultures, new people, new landscapes ! 🤩 I’m interested in absolutely everything.

During this gap year, I’d like to stay in 5 cities across Canada : Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver. On Septembre 15th, I arrived in Montreal for my first step in Canada. It was an amazing experience ! 😍 I really loved the city, the atmosphere, the people… I was hosted by a lovely CouchSurfing family. It was such a great beginning ! I’m a Working-Holiday Visa holder, which allows me to work in Canada. In Montreal, I used to work for the Beavertails shop, it was so cool ! 😎🦫 I have got fantastic memories from Montreal !

Since November 11th, I’m living in Toronto, my second stop in Canada. I’m hosted by Fatih, a lovely CouchSurfing host. I basically had to stay a few days with him, but we got along so well together that he offered me to stay in his place until the end of December 🤩 I’m really glad here ! I love the city, and I meet some amazing people ! I found a job in an escape room, so I’m a game master. It’s so cool 😎

I’ll stay in Toronto until December 23rd, and then, I’d like to spend Christmas and New Year’s Eve in New-York, and Washington DC. 🤩 After this, I’d like to move to Ottawa, maybe until the end of February. From March to April, I’m planning to go to Calgary, Banff or Jasper. My last stop would be Vancouver or Victoria (or both of them) from May to June. I can’t wait to discover all those cities 😍

I’m a very outgoing person, who likes meeting new people, discovering new cultures, trying new dishes (😋), chatting with friends… I’m a very talkative person, and I love having deep conversations. I think that I’m pretty easy to leave with. I like sharing my belongings, I try to be as discreet as possible, and above all, I’m very respectful. I’m so grateful to the people who welcome me in their place, and respecting them is the most important thing to do. I try to be as generous as my wallet allows it, to thank my hosts 😂 It can be with offering a restaurant, cooking a meal, paying some groceries, just basics things, after me. I don’t only want to be a guest, I always want to be a part of the family, that’s why I can clean the place, wash the dishes, help at cooking… I don’t need a luxurious place to be happy ! I could sleep on a couch for one whole year, the main important thing is to feel good and warm 😌 My parents gave me a very good education, and I think that I can describe me as a polite, helpful, and friendly person. I just try to do my best ! 😊

My main passion is travelling. I try to travel as much as possible. I’m only 18 years old, so I haven’t had the chance to do it a lot, but I’m planning to become a globe-trotter ! 🌎 My ultimate goal would be to make a huge travel all around the world.
I also love cooking, and especially pastries. I have got a Facebook account, where I post all my creations. It’s called “Charlie’s” 😁. I like cooking salty things too, and to make discover Belgian dishes to my hosts.
I do a lot of sport, and my life is really active 😁 I like all kinds of sports : swimming, running, bodybuilding…

I only created my Couchsurfer account in Septembre 2022, that’s why I don’t have many references 😞 Please don’t be too hard with me 🥲

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m on CouchSurfing because I mainly want to meet new people. During this gap year, I want to discover as many people as possible. CouchSurfing is such a great way to meet new amazing people ! I’m so grateful to this app ! 🙏🏻 It has really changed my life.
I’m sometimes looking for hosts, who would agree to welcome me for a few days, or weeks. I’m also looking for people to hang out with. It’s so nice to discover a place with the locals! 😎

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Leaving all my family, my friends and my house to take a gap year in Canada 😍 I absolutely don’t regret it at all! I’m having some wonderful time here, and I’m meeting amazing people. I think this experience will make me more independent, strong and self-confident 😊 I’m so glad to be here !
