About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get a job in Sydney, Australia, find a place to stay, make some new friends, explore places near the city and save up for travelling around Oz later in the year

ABOUT ME

Easy going, spontaneous, friendly and easily pleased. Hoping to meet lots of interesting people whilst travelling around the globe! I love nightlife, enjoy the outdoors and love learning new things, be it history, languages, cultures or just about new people.

I grew up in Shropshire, England, which is located between Birmingham and Wales. I studied Biochemistry at Imperial College London and lived in West London for three years. I'm considering a career in Science Communication but for the next couple of years am just hoping to see lots of new places, meet new people, figure out what I would like to do as a career and learn as many new skills as possible.

I arrived in Australia on the 7th of January and spent my first month in the country in Brisbane and around the Gold Coast. I'm searching for work and a place to stay in Sydney where I hope to base myself for a few months, exploring what the city has to offer and saving up for some travelling later in the year. Up for meeting locals and other backpackers!

PHILOSOPHY

The world is a book, and those who don't travel only read one page (cliché I know)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I learnt about graffiti art from my host in Berne, Switzerland. My time in New York was made 10 times better by the generosity and guidance of my host there. I loved meeting so many creative and passionate people through my hosts in Savannah, Georgia. I was treated to the most incredible Thanksgiving dinner from a friend of my host in Nashville! I got on so well with my host in Memphis she decided to travel with me to New Orleans. I made friends with my first drag queen in Vancouver, went to a surreal "Starry Night" themed house party in Seattle with a bunch of Burning Man festival - goers, got the best walking tour of Portland from my new friend there and had an exquisite Christmas feast from my host in San Francisco (who was also a club bouncer and got me into a great party for free).

Interests

Interested in science, media, nature, hiking, history, geography, architecture, different cultures, gaming, fashion, travel, literature, film and music (playing, listening, composing and arranging). My favourite pastime is learning - new skills, new outlooks, new facts, new opinions, whatever. As a result I want to read as many books, watch as many films, see as many places, and meet as many people as I can. I want to challenge my own perceptions, expand my horizons and place myself out of my comfort zone.

Music, Movies, and Books

Leave me to my own devices and I'll either listen to laid back house, technopop, club hits, jazz or ambient instrumental. I've played all kinds of music on my sax ranging from classical to blues to gospel. Daft Punk is possibly my favourite band, it's hard to choose!

I enjoy animated films (cus I'm young at heart), action (although not mindless action... more James Bond than the Expendables!), comedies, dramas, independent, and Hitchcock (like all of them).

Now that I'm travelling I'm reading a fair bit, mostly modern classics and also some old ones, because I didn't read enough of them when I was younger! Some of my favourites are On the Road, We Need to Talk About Kevin, All Quiet on the Western Front and Cloud Atlas.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been to 28 countries in Europe and I'm only 21, not bad going I'd say.

Oh and I travelled solo for 13 weeks, that's more than most ;D
