About Me

Hey! I'm Charlie.

I've spent the past few years travelling and working around the world, most recently volunteering with intentional communities in the USA, New Zealand and here in the UK. I love exploring new ideas within the areas of off-grid alternative housing, sustainable living, renewable energy, permaculture projects, food forests, organic gardens, eco-villages, zero-waste initiatives, or any mish-mash of these... I want to be able to look back in a couple of decades and know that I truly did everything I could to help our planet and all of her inhabitants.

Until very recently I've been seriously creatively blocked, but I'm now in the process of writing my first book. It's focussed around my experiences with grief, with the intention of helping others with theirs. I'm looking for somewhere to explore more of my homeland, sharing stories and ideas, while having a space to achieve my dreams - let me cook you up a storm as a thank you for letting me stay... Symbiosis at it's finest!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is such a fantastic concept and a great way to share experiences, skills and memories with people from all walks of life. I love learning about the different ways people live their lives and to share my stories, too.

I first started Couchsurfing in Australia in 2013 and since then have stayed with wonderful individuals in India, the USA, New Zealand and also here in the UK. I've met some truly inspirational humans, not to mention some of the kindest, most genuine people on Earth. I like to think of myself as a seasoned surfer now so I know the drill - I will gladly hang out or sit up talking for hours if you want to but on the other hand I'm happy to stay out of the way and leave you to it! Everyone has their preferred way of doing things.

Interests

I'm very open-minded and always up for trying new things. I'm extremely passionate about nature, hiking and generally just being active outdoors, with the odd lazy day thrown in for good measure. I just love travelling and experiencing... I know how important it is for self exploration and want to do and see as much as I can while encouraging others to do the same.

Music, Movies, and Books

After working for two consecutive seasons in Ibiza in 2011 and 2012, house music was my main passion for years. I've now branched out into anything from 60s/70s classic rock to 80s electro to 90s indie - at the moment I'm getting pretty into ambient psychedelic rock! I'm always receptive to new sounds. I'm a serial reader, mostly of non-fiction, and right now I've got about 30 different books on the go...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitch hiking from England to Morocco is definitely up there with the most amazing experiences so far. The whole thing started off my obsession with travel and made me want to see and do as much as I possibly can in this life time. Spending three months living with a Chinese family and teaching their son English was also pretty incredible, despite the language barrier... Then in 2017 India became my favourite country so far after a two month trip - it's definitely somewhere I'll be going back to!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a passionate conversationalist and think everyone has something to share. It's important to learn about new subjects, interests and blabber on with general stories about life, the universe and everything in between...

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have endless travelling stories and love to hear everyone else's experiences, whether from travelling or otherwise. I'm respectable, trustworthy and clean and really appreciate being welcomed into other people's homes.
