ABOUT ME

We are a busy family of three. Charlie is a curious problem solver, funny, supportive, thoughtful. Katharine is outgoing, likes puns (ugh), loves to travel and meet people. Julia (bright and creative) now lives nearby. We've traveled a lot, mostly when we were young(er). We love being Portlanders. We try to minimize our big footprint, and leave as many small ones as possible.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We do our vicarious traveling by hosting surfers and sharing our fondness for Portland/Oregon/NW. We like to get to know our guests and thus prefer to host for more than one night; we're not interested in simply providing a place to crash. For us this is a cultural and kindness exchange opportunity.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Ours started with joining the CS group in Victoria, BC, for an afternoon and evening there; can't believe it was as long ago as 2012. Great group! We met the lovely pair who would become our first couchsurfer guests back in Portland. Since then we've hosted at our home and done just a bit of surfing ourselves. Best armchair travel ever.

Interests

Charlie likes reading, cycling, paddling, exploring the unexpected in people and places. Katharine likes some of that, too, plus watching movies, going for walks/hikes, spending time with friends and quiet time alone. Julia likes film, music, writing, doing art and being with her friends. We love to play games! BananaGrams, anyone?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Charlie: kayaking bits of the Oregon coast, cycling around Crater Lake, canoe/hike trip on the Green River in Utah, fishing the Skeena River in BC. Katharine: a solo trip around the world, surviving (so far) raising a daughter.

We live in a house that we built to high environmental standards (LEED Platinum). We love sharing what we've learned from this experience.
