About Me

CURRENT MISSION

see the planet as much as possible and its amazing inhabitants.

ABOUT ME

It almost goes without saying that I love adventures and extended traveling. If I go somewhere, I want to see it good. I hope that others consider me a fun person, and an astute observer may recognize that I take little seriously and I find a laugh in almost anything. I'm married to my best friend Allie Hively and we're expecting our first child in July 2010. She's cool too, trust me. Almost all you'll read about me here applies to her too.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is religion, life is an amazing opportunity and you get to live your own one, so do it as you see fit. Variety may be the spice of life for some, but I suppose people are for me. People rock, and I'd love to have your number in my phone book.

It seems to me that the vast majority of human history saw its participants struggling to survive, their life being spent just trying to keep living the next day. In this era, we are in the unique position where we are freed from the restraints of working the soil, and with this development I plan to, well, exploit it, and go see the earth. We were meant to live this life, to live it good, to live it how we deem fit. For me, this is in the context of relationship with others, so this is far from a personal journey, its something we all do with one another. You know, typical hippie stuff.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

After spending a month in Guatemala, I realized that the people are as much of the attraction as seeing the country itself. This is not say that I mean to objectify people, but from my travels I've found that the people are as apart of the land as the mountains, rivers and lakes. I hope to be shown and to show other people the land and its people unified.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm workin' on my first one through this website! Hopefully London will be my first! I've met and stayed with lots of random people when traveling, just not through couch surfing though I know several people who have done it.

Interests

I like the planet and all the fun we can have on it, which includes hiking and backpacking and their cousin camping, skiing, mountain biking, kayaking, caving, surfing, stand up paddle boarding and cliff jumping. But really just adventuring and seeing different places is what its all about. I also just like to chat and have a beer or coffee, and I love to laugh and tell corny jokes. I love animals and growing plants/vegetables indoors.

Music, Movies, and Books

I feel bad listing Into The Wild as one of my favorite books, but dangit I read it five years before the movie ever came out. I also love books by Rob Bell, Brian McLaren and Donald Miller. My favorite music is funky stuff, I like to shakeith my booty. But if we must get specific - then it would be the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Third Eye Blind, U2, Keane, Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, Robbie Seay Band, Mute Math, Mat Kearney, Switchfoot, David Gray, among others. I'm not much of a movie guy, I've got too short an attention span for them, but I guess I enjoyed V for Vendetta, Signs, Big Fish and Saved. Ohhh and the best is Castaway!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walking 314 miles on the Appalachian trail in 24 days. It was so other worldly that I have a hard time believing that I even did it.
