About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My current mission is to get to Chicago, get around the city, hang out, have a good time, and stay safe!

ABOUT ME

I'm a pretty easy going fella, I love to drink coffee and have animated conversation. I try to ride my bike for transportation and live life in an ecologically mindful way.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is wonderful, occasionally shitty, but overwhelmingly interesting. I try to keep myself involved in the world in body and mind. At times I'm a radical skeptic, bordering on nihilism, but I maintain a sense of hope for myself and the world in at least a spiritual sense.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well, as of yet, I have not participated much in the CS community, but I am more than willing to accomodate surfers, not just by letting them sleep on my couch (er, floor), but by showing them around my beautiful town and helping them to have the local Fayettevillager experience.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I spent a month and a half this past summer as an unofficial couchsurfer, it was pretty cool. Thank goodness for good friends and wine! One night as I fell asleep on a couch, I realized I'd slept on four different couches in the last week. I'm usually a homebody so the experience was illuminating and horizon broadening. I definitely want to surf some more couches

Interests

I like to read, love drinking coffee, riding my bike at dangerous speeds in dangerous ways, going to parties, meeting new people, having intense conversations and connecting with relative strangers, laughing til I cry, camping, backpacking, swimming in natural bodies of water, practicing my rudimentary Spanish. Thrill-seeking in various and possibly nefarious ways.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: les claypool projects, house music, electronic music of all sorts from Venetian Snares to Fatboy Slim. I also love classical music, music of the ethnicities of the world, and generally every variety of acoustic expression.

Movies: Dr. Strangelove, adaptations of Chuck Palahniuk books, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Where the Buffalo Roam, Traffic, Woody Allen flicks, the Die Hards, the Lethal Weapons, Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Trainspotting, Fantastic Earth (ever heard of it?)...I love film.

Literature: oh, it's too hard to list all the books I've read and loved. The Jungle comes to mind, as does Freakonomics, PiHKAL, TiHKAl, anything Bukowski wrote, Bukowski's influences like Turgenev and Celine, let's just say I like good literature.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Standing on cerro de la muerte in Costa Rica, looking down at the Atlantic ocean 50 miles away, from 10,000 feet above sea level. Amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Oh, I'm really enthusiastic about explaining concepts that I understand to people in a manner that is both instructive and accessible. On the other hand, I love to learn and people tend to be the best immediate sources of information because of the ways they represent knowledge (as opposed to books, the Internet, etc.).

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Costa Rica, Nicaragua

Countries I’ve Lived In
