To explore the world and get a better idea of my place in it.

ABOUT ME

I work in an after-school program and at a shelter for domestic violence survivors. I currently live in Nashville, Tennessee. I am vegan for just about every reason that one would choose that lifestyle, but I am not exclusive or judgmental about it. I am a feminist; I oppose violence and oppression, and I highly value critical thinking and mindfulness. I like being healthy, feeling good, laughing, etc!

PHILOSOPHY

I like meeting new people and discovering how different we all can be, and learning something new and useful from lots of different kinds.
I find I have many issues with capitalism, as it interferes with many people's attempts at peace and happiness. I think our society could be more focused around people and what we have to offer each other, rather than a system of money.
I do not consider myself religious.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surfed this summer, and found it to be an incredible experience. My current schedule and living situation don't feel quite stable enough for me to host just yet, but I definitely feel the desire to give back to the CS community, and hope to do so in the near future.

I'm really into talking, reading, writing, playing music, listening to music, learning, meeting new people, riding my bike, yoga, playing sports (mostly tennis and basketball), walking/hiking, sitting in the sun, cooking, playing games, hanging out with friends, etc.

Musica, film e libri

I grew up on punk rock and my music interests have evolved from there. I like lots and lots of different music. Lately I've been listening to more classical and jazz. Helps me think.
I like movies that make me think, aren't obvious, and are funny in a clever way (which is hard to come by these days!). I love a good documentary.
My favorite authors are probably John Steinbeck, W. Somerset Maugham, and Thomas Hardy. I also really like fiction written by black Americans, like Native Son and The Color Purple. I like a lot of non-fiction too. I just read Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts and it was incredible.

I love playing music and I'm starting to teach a friend how to play guitar, my first pupil. I have a little bit of experience teaching children - I feel like my strength is in teaching how to be comfortable with expressing oneself, whether it be through talking, writing, drawing, music, etc.
