About Me

I used to work in international trade in China, Japan, Belgium and Australia. I work now as a programmer for a consultancy. I also read about intercultural, business, science and innovation.
I also love language learning, djing and sport in general.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I discovered couchsurfing from events when I was travelling. It's a very efficient way to meet interesting people when you just arrive somewhere. Later I had host experiences in Brussels.

Interests

- Language learning: I studied in China and learnt Chinese, later I lived in Japan. At that time I didn't realize I had an interest for learning languages. Later I came back to Europe, with more or less strong basics in Chinese and some Japanese. I was facing Spanish or Dutch in some environments as couch surfing events in Brussels. Then I realize "this language is actually easy after Chinese or Japanese". With a ridiculously smaller amount of time I could express myself way better than I did with Japanese in the same time for instance. That's how my interest started. Then each language I have been learning deserve a story of its own.

- DJing, I organised few events with friends in Brussels. Music is very important for me in general. I have influences from rock, electro and some instru hiphop. I am more into music without lyrics. It's up to you to build your own story in your head. I am mainly into melodic techno and deephouse for the past years.

- Cooking in general: randomly chopping vegetables without knowing what to cook tonight and ending up with something amazing. I developed basics in Morocan, Libanese and Thai cuisine and now I can confidently say that I can improvise with these cuisine cultures.

- Running, I just ran three marathons in the past few years: Budapest by night, Paris and Brussels. Unsurprisingly all attempts to run in 2020 and even 2021 were canceled. I should have run the Rhode marathon in Greece in April 2021 also.

- Hiking in nature: get lost in the forests or the mountains and meditate while listening to the birds. I am more a mountain guy than a sea guy. I have a latent interest into more advanced mountain hiking and even mountaineering (or alpinism depending on how you call it). Next I would like to go to high summits in the Alps with a guide.

- Beer, I love beers, good beers ! Brewage options are infinite, from cultures to places, we always discover some new jewels. Imagination of people can be expressed through brewing.

Beer and DJing or going to techno festivals conflict completely with my healthy lifestyle described above, but I take entirely responsibility of it ^^

Music, Movies, and Books

At the moment I am reading:
- Thomas Piketty, Capital et Idéologie (in FR), about the evolution and the current situation of structural inequalities.
- Van reybrouck, Revolusi (in Dutch), an insight about colonization of Indonesia by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and its legacy on both countries' history.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Crossing Bavaria on bicycle (Romantische Strasse) alone. I had virtually zero experience in cycling, apart from be able to move forward. I rented a bicycle next to Würtzburg and rode down the 400km of the Romantische Strasse down to Füssen. It was a deep dive into Bavarian sceneries and a big improvement for my German.

Hiking alone around the Tour du Mont Blanc, 170km across France, Italy and Switzerland, breathing fresh air from the mountains and suffering at each path uphills for hours, before reaching the top a mountain pass and being awarded by a breathtaking view on a new valley. This experience taught me about the concept of suffering, in Buddhistic way, since you live in the present through the pain of mountain hiking. All troubles you had last week or worries about next week are gone, you are here, you suffer, in the moment, you are alive.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to share from experiences. People who lived the things, do not watch TV, know how to nuance their opinions with key words like "necessarily"/"not necessarily"/"most of"/"some of" etc... not categorical and absolute and judge according to personal experiences and appreciations.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A bit of experiences and at least an inspiring exchange. We can also talk about movies, youtube feeds, music, traveling, languages, hiking, boxing and running, and so on...
