About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel the world to find somewhere cool to live. Or just be nomads forever... haven't decided yet! Just want to spread our wings a little, Scotland is beautiful but we've lived here all our lives and we have itchy feet.

ABOUT ME

Charlotte is a book geek, lover of dance and theatre, curious and independent.

Mark is artistic, easy going, loves the outdoors and making things.

We're both friendly, laid back, tidy and creative. We are also veggie but don't mind other people cooking/eating meat around us, as long as you don't force it down our throats! Or give us the 'how do you get your protein?/but bacon!' chat. We've heard it before. A lot. Equally we will never lecture anyone about what they eat - mutual respect for other people's life choices is a great thing!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people of course! Make friends, discover new places...

We couchsurfed in Toronto and New York and both were great experiences. I love how through this website you meet new friends and get a local's eye view of a place. We met more couchsurfers during our WWOOFing on a farm in Ontario, all lovely, amazing, interesting and passionate people. In Sydney we stayed with a host and ended up house and cat-sitting for her for two weeks whilst she was at home in New Zealand.

Looking forward to surfing more, meeting new friends and hosting when we settle somewhere for more than a few weeks. Unfortunately cannot host right now as we are travelling, but would definitely consider hosting in the future, wherever we end up.

Interests

Charlotte loves dancing, reading, writing, swimming, surfing (badly), spending time with friends and family, discovering new places.

Mark likes drawing and design, being outdoors, surfing, cycling, discovering new beers and whiskies and making cocktails.

Music, Movies, and Books

We mostly like rock, ska and punk music, though we're pretty open-minded.

Authors Charlotte loves - Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, H G Wells, Alisdair Gray, Ursula Le Guin, Tolkien, Margaret Atwood, the Brontes, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, Oscar Wilde, Colleen McCullough... list is endless and I'm always finding more. Life is too short to read all of the books I want to read. (In contrast Mark doesn't like reading much!)

Movies - we like geeky movies, action movies, comedies, sci-fi, fantasy movies. I can't watch horror movies, I get too scared. Big wimp.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travelling through France in our beautiful campervan Serenity in 2013. Although it ended in tears (we crashed) it was still the best two weeks ever. Beautiful scenery, weather, wine, what more could you want?

Visiting Iceland in early October 2014. Like another planet, insanely mesmorising! Particularly standing right next to a glacier, it really doesn't feel like you're still on Earth.

Survived 5 months working on an eggplant farm in Bowen, Queensland.

Walked across the Brooklyn and Golden Gate Bridges.

Been to four of the six Hawaiian islands.

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach dance! If you'd like a ballet class or jazz class or samba or tap then I'd be happy to share my passion for dance with you. I'm also a qualified English language teacher.

We're both quite new to travelling really and would love to learn more about other people's experiences all over the world. It would also be cool to learn some more languages...

What I Can Share with Hosts

Tasty veggie cooking; cake; travel chat over tea and/or alcohol (we are Scottish after all).
