I am originally from the UK but have been living in Germany for the last eight years. When travelling to new places, I always take my sketchbook, diary and old Pentax camera - I don't like to be around crowds of tourists, preferring to wander around quieter areas, take photos, sit in a cafe and absorb the atmosphere. I also love learning about the local history, art and culture.

I moved to Berlin on my own eight years ago, a city where I knew absolutely noone, so I have ample experience of what it is like to be alone in a strange city, and of how much it means to make connections with others and find companionship in such situations. Since then I have been travelling on my own and discovered that one of the most enriching parts of the experience of travel is all the chance encounters you have along the way, with locals or other travellers, the shared moments and conversations. Facilitating these connections between people around the world seems to be the essence of what Couchsurfing is about and that is why I want to be part of it.

One memorable travel experience was doing a tour of Guatemala with my grandma, who was in her late 70s at the time. She is an inspiration!
