About Me

I am currently a student of music and theatre in New Zealand looking to explore the world and meet the people in it! I consider myself an open and generally happy person to be around, and love talking to and learning about the people I meet. I'm also happy to pass on my own stories for anyone who's interested.

I haven't travelled much yet, as I've been concentrating on my studies, but as the opportunities are arriving I'm more than happy to dive in head first!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

At the present time I am studying in the United States of America and have two months before I have to head home to New Zealand. So, with a student budget and a passion for seeing beautiful places, I'm heading around the States! The student budget is definitely the main impetus for couchsurfing, but the ability to stay with locals and learn about their hometowns and everyday experiences in America is equally appealing. I can't wait!!

Interests

My main interests lie (unsurprisingly) in music and theatre. One of the reasons I came to America to study is its wealth of artistic output. I'm particularly passionate about Musical Theatre, and have enjoyed the ability to go to a few Broadway shows while here.
I also have great passions for nerd culture and politics, both of which I can happily talk about for hours. Of course, if you don't want to talk about them I won't try and push them on you, and will happily chat about whatever you want to talk about.
I also enjoy cooking, movies and reading.
I also love going out and exploring new places, including nature walks, city nightlife and general wandering.

Music, Movies, and Books

Almost all musical theatre: don't be surprised if I start singing songs from Wicked, Next to Normal or RENT without realizing it.

I love listening to punk rock, classic rock and some pop music. My parents raised me on a diet of Queen, Elton John, Pink Floyd and Genesis (my Dad's English). I also appreciate art music, particularly the Romantic-era composers and Mozart, and have particularly enjoyed studying these composers in University.

My diet of movies and television are mostly based around nerd culture, with Marvel, Doctor Who, Star Wars and Sherlock sitting near the top of the list. I thoroughly enjoy a well-made film though, and have watched many dramatic, comedic and creative films over the years.
Books-wise, I enjoy reading and have done so from a very young age. I was one of those children that read with a torch under the covers after lights-out. Time has made it difficult lately, but I still love to read.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This trip to America is definitely the most amazing thing I've done so far!

Teach, Learn, Share

I have some experience teaching piano, singing and music theory so I'd be happy to give some basic tutelage if you're interested.
I can also teach you how to cook some New Zealand foods, especially pikelets and pavlova.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am very happy to cook some kiwi classics, like pikelets or pavlova. I'm also a pretty good cook generally so I'd be happy to help out in that regard.

I'm also happy to do a little hard-work if asked, although my fitness is somewhat lacking. I tend to approach things with a can-do attitude in general.

Otherwise, I'll be happy to share my New Zealand knowledge and good company with you!
