About Me

ABOUT ME

You know how everyone says that they "like to try new things" but that's usually a load of hogwash? Well, I do genuinely love to try new things. If I haven't done it and it won't put my life at risk then it's automatically on my bucket list. If I don't know about it then I probably want to know about it--whatever "it" is. And I'd love to teach you something new, too. Curiosity makes a life worth living--more often than it makes for food poisoning and the occasional awkward moment. ;)

Other than that, I'm a pre-law student with an academic focus on immigration. I just finished my guardian ad litem training. (Guardian: person who represents the interests of an allegedly abused child in court.) I'm funny, kind, a bit spicy, and a good listener. I try not to be an ass and I try to make my time with people meaningful.

PHILOSOPHY

Lust for, appreciate, and stand in awe of even the most mundane details of the human experience. When your inner demon tells you that you can't: Give it the bird.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am pretty new to couch surfing but I am already completely in love with it. I've been blessed with such wonderful experiences! I guess that I contribute most by randomly mentioning couchsurfing.org in conversations.

*massive gasp* But what do you MEAN you've never heard of couch surfing?! *bug-eyed exasperation*

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have you ever eaten something that was so damn good that you just could not get enough of it? You'd want more and more and all with a big, content smile on your face? Well, Moroccan culture was my ice-cream sundae. Couch surfing at a Moroccan-American home I received a one-day crash course in Berber (Tamazight) and Arabic, Moroccan history and politics, gnawa music, tajine, and a bunch of other things. It was an incredible eye-opener. It brought a spot on the map to life, quite literally. Only couch surfing can bring people together for such a short amount of time and have them leave with their minds, well, thoroughly blown!

Interests

Travel, learning about new cultures and subcultures, live music, law, history, film, books, eating good food, cooking good food , having real conversations with all kinds of people, sitting in my favorite coffee shop with all the old men, learning anything.

Music, Movies, and Books

There is nothing sexier than the sound of a wailing guitar against a raspy, bluesy voice, but I also have a really wide, mix-and-match taste in music. Some of my favorites are Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, The Black Keys, and RJD2.

Federico Fellini. I'm getting into him. No one has cinematography so plush. I tend to watch indie flicks and foreign flicks but I won't turn down the occasional domestic, bigger production.

Books. In non-fiction right now I am reading about the boiling melting pot of bad ass 1970s NYC and a book about the history of blues music in America. In fiction I'm really enjoying "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter" by Carson McCullers. When I finish it I'll probably read something by Farnoosh Moshiri or John Irving.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The other day my eyes met with another person's eyes. We didn't speak, we didn't know each other, and we came from very different backgrounds, but we were sharing the same thoughts and emotions over an event. To be understood so deeply by a complete stranger is a rare phenomenon.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like to learn about anything that stirs emotion in someone. I'd like to learn how to love a city and a culture that belongs to someone else as if it's my own.
