About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to be truthful and real in all aspects of life

ABOUT ME

I am an independent, free-lance choreographer and contemporary dance artist. what the hell does that mean?! well I guess it somehow how relates to contemporary art practice, but using mainly dance as the medium...although I also work closely with visual artists, composers and musicians. This kind of earns me a living. kind of/not quite - if you live a simple, thrifty existence, which generally i do. I hate being asked 'what do you do?' type questions - as if all your identity is tied up in where you earn your money...and if you don't really earn much money, then that being a large indicator on the value, success, and worth of your work. ok this is turning into a rant. sorry!

I love dance, I love being in the studio creating work and sharing it with many people and engaging in discussion about it. I love somewhat less writing funding applications and all the computer hours that go into one studio hour. (But I'm getting better at it)

I live in a beautiful flat which I share with my beautiful girlfriend. Together we are looking after it whilst some friends of ours are cycling to Japan. Yep - cycling all the way to Japan! They left in May and are currently in Turkey - not bad!

PHILOSOPHY

I seek truthful, open connection with myself and others in my life. Sharing simple pleasures like spontaneous gatherings - cooking together, making music, going on long walks brings me such a strong feeling of life force and abundance.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

i am new to couch surfing but i have heard many wonderful, delightful stories from friends - i wait with baited breath to collect my own tales to tell...

Interests

cycling, walking in mountains (though it has been TOO long since i last went), swimming in seas and lakes and rivers, growing food, baking bread (especially sourdough hmmm yum yum), health food shops make me feel at home. Star gazing - wow! then we realise how small we are and crazy time perspectives blow my brain and that's quite exciting. Little bit of an eco-activist type but not as much as I would wish - there don't seem to be enough hours in the day.

Music, Movies, and Books

just a couple that spring to mind: Jeanette Winterson - completely amazing - read her books!! Music - Bon Iver, Steve Reich, Arvo Part, Bethia Beadman, Fourtet, Tinariwen, Toumani Diabate, Sekgura. Of course hundreds of thousands more incredible musicians.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

laser eye surgery 5 years ago - changed my life. absolutely

living in Ghana in the middle of nowhere with nothing. humbling experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

Through my dance training and experience I have quite a bit of body knowledge that I am happy to share - not just dance stuff, but also yoga, pilates, cross-training, little bits and pieces of anatomy, injury prevention, body awareness and physical training...

sharing experiences of hitch-hiking I recommend it to everyone. encourages us to put trust back into society, and open ourselves to meeting new (almost always lovely) people
