About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To see and learn as much as I can
ABOUT ME
I'm from Michigan, USA and currently a Peace Corps English teacher in Turkmenistan. At home I like to spend the summers around the water--Michigan has beautiful lakes--and all year round I'm a big reader. I especially like short stories. I like to learn, and to talk, which sometimes is contradictory. I'm good at being comfortable where ever I am and with whom ever I'm with.
PHILOSOPHY
You can learn from everybody if you listen.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
If you're coming through Turkmenistan before December 2010, I would love to help you. Unfortunately because the government is very strict all I can do is give you information and possibly meet you if you come through this year. After this year (my contract is ending in December), my couch will be open, where ever I am.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
None yet--hopefully plenty soon.
Interests
Reading, music, and performance arts--I really enjoy watching people be creative. I like walking, talking, and learning.

Music, Movies, and Books
I don't have much preference in movies--a good movie is a good movie and fun. I especially like the writers that came out of WWI, even the poetry, which I don't read much normally. But, I have been trying to read more current authors. I've been really enjoying Gloria Naylor. I'm also a big sci-fi fan, and am looking forward to completing my Phillip K Dick collection :). I'm real open with music, but I do not like electronica. And, actually, Turkmen music is pretty bad.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've been learning the Turkmen language and about the culture for the past year and half. I didn't ever expect to come here, and it has been a lot of fun. Good books on this region: Tribal Nation (I forgot the author, its a study of Soviet nation building in this region) and the Brant travel guide to Tstan. Also good is a book called "Lenin's Tomb" written by David Remnick about the last days of the Soviet Union--really well written.
Teach, Learn, Share
I try to know the places that I live as well as I can, and I would love to share what I know.
