About Me

I'm a quiet, easy going guy from rural Ontario, Canada. I currently live in Victoria, BC where I work in a care home for seniors with dementia. I am finishing a diploma in nutrition from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. Other than work and studying, my days are often filled with watching Toronto Raptors games, fantasy football, cooking and eating, reading a travel or fantasy book, spending time with my girlfriend, and planning travel/exploring.

A few years ago I discovered my love of travel and my life has not been the same since. For my first trip I travelled around Europe for five months. It was an incredible, eye opening experience that infected me with the travel bug and a serious case of wanderlust.

A year later I headed to Hawaii to backpack the islands for three months. It was the most rewarding time of my life. I met amazing people with whom I shared unforgettable moments in some of the most beautiful places in the world. I was constantly being forced out of my comfort zone which lead me to discover new things about myself and develop new interests. Since then I have been addicted to learning more about the history and culture of the islands and daydreaming about returning.

During the summer of 2014 I travelled across Canada to finally discover the country I have lived in my whole life. I came away with a greater appreciation for Canada and it's extremely diverse people, landscapes, and wildlife. The trip led to me relocating across the country to Victoria, BC to experience living on the west coast.

Travel seems to bring out the best in me. I am happier, kinder, and more positive, open minded, and confident when I am on the road. I try new things more often, am more active, sleep better, and worry less. I feel like I have learned more during my 8 months of travel than I have the other 27 years of my life.

"If I'm an advocate for anything, it's to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food, it's a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up off the couch, move." - Anthony Bourdain

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I cant imagine what my travels would have been like without Couchsurfing. It allows me to meet incredible, like-minded people from all over the world. Staying with locals allows a unique cultural experience that you would not find staying in a hotel or even hostel. Attending events and meetups is a great way to stay involved when you are unable to host or surf.

I have met many CSers all over the world that I still stay in touch with and consider friends.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Some of my favourite moments:

Road trip to New Jersey to see Eric Church perform. (Also meeting him in Nashville)

Living with relatives in Northern Ireland for three weeks.

Sitting on the sea organ in Zadar watching the sunset. (And skinny dipping off of it in the middle of the night)

Accidentally discovering an incredible view 5 minutes from the place I've lived my whole life.

Backpacking Hawaii, highlighted by hiking an active volcano and my kayaking/whale near death experience.

Hiking Mount Marcy with the guys.

Seeing an orca spyhop in Tofino.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach some songs on the ukulele. I like learning about food, nutrition, and wellness.
