About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My main aim is to travel the world, I have a long way to go but I have a lifetime ahead of me..

ABOUT ME

I'm Chaz and generally enjoy travelling, going for walks and doing extreme sports. I am generally quite sociable and mostly like listening to metal, rock and other similar genres of music.

While at University, I researched quantum field theory, and worked on research into Interstellar travel which involves mathematically constructing warp drives and wormholes and showing whether they are possible to make them in the future, and how inefficient they are to produce (in order to produce a functioning warp drive, as seen in star trek and other sci-fi shows, we would require about 10^20 times the mass of the Milky way converted into energy). My previous work was on modelling of diseases (specifically the Ebola virus) in small populations which was particularly interesting. I am also working on modelling fish populations by looking at predator-prey systems. I plan to study fractal thermodynamics and entropy as my next project which should be difficult to comprehend but fun.

I now work in a pharmaceutical lab shipping drugs around the world, which is really quite a fun job, and allows me to work as much as I want.

I also enjoy spending a lot of time in the outdoors and recently went on a 5 day bicycle trip through the mountains in north Vietnam which was quite a challenge, but was very rewarding.

Just to quickly note, I respond to all requests but the site is broken and won't allow me to accept or reject, only reply with a message, hence giving me a very low response rate.

PHILOSOPHY

I personally believe you get out of life what you put into it.

Follow your dreams, no matter what and hope for the best. If everything goes wrong, don't worry, you'll at least have a story to tell.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have hosted quite a few people and it is a really positive experience as I get to meet interesting people and explore the city more and find places which I have never been to before despite me knowing the city really well.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When me and my friend were travelling around South-Eastern Europe, we often had extra space and so allowed people to couch surf with us in our rented accommodation.
My friend who is constantly travelling occasionally visits and often brings other people he has met on his travels with him.
I am also currently organising the York Couchsufing meet-ups. If you have any questions about it, don't hesitate to ask. =)

Interests

My main interests other than travelling are extreme sports, problem solving and generally just chilling and having a good time. I also have quite a few board games and have a decent collection which is always growing, so even if you stay with me on a rainy day (it doesn't rain in York very often), there is always stuff to do. I have quite a tea collection as well, and know quite a few good coffee shops, if that is more your style. I also have a sizeable alcohol collection including stuff imported from Europe.

My aim is to travel to 8 countries I haven't been to before every year. The trips I have planned for the rest of the year are to Sumatra and Singapore, a 2 week cycle trip across Norway, and to celebrate New Years in an undecided country.

Music, Movies, and Books

I mostly enjoy rock, punk rock, etc. I have quite a varied music taste, though do love Green Day, Linkin Park, The Doors, Johnny Cash, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent a week in Transnistria

Teach, Learn, Share

I am quite an active and sociable person and depending on when you stay with me depends on what there is to offer. For example, every couple of months, a group of us meet up, build a bonfire in the middle of a field, drink mead, brandy, etc and sing or play folk songs. Sometimes I travel to my parents house where we can go watch stock car racing, go water skiing, or classic motor bike racing, or just simply go to my nans for a family gathering with excess amounts of food and drink.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am an incredibly laid back and open-minded individual and am always interested in doing cool and interesting things. I can teach you how to use maths to model real world problems, share insight into abstract ideas and tell stories about my traveling experiences.
