About Me
Not accepting guests currently because I'm not even home!
Oh hi everyone. I'm not even sure what to put here except a short blurb about how much I like travelling and meeting people. I assume that's why anyone's on here in the first place.
If you wanna know more about me, why not shoot over a friendly message?
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
While there are stark contrasts between cultures, I think that people have more in common than not; the things that cause us to be happy, to suffer, or to feel fulfilled all share very similar themes. Differences only arise because our societies tell us to pursue common desires in different ways.
Part of the reason I travel is to meet new people and see how different cultures approach issues that all humans share: what we value, what we fear, and what life ought to be like. By learning these varying perspectives, I can find a best of all worlds and improve myself and the lives of those around me.
While I could live in a hostel or hotel, couchsurfing allows me to "truly" meet the locals and see their unique approaches to life.
(also, I’m a poor student and often can’t afford it!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In 2014, I went to Kenya on a public health field course. The area I was in was super poor: they had electricity (sometimes), they didn't have plumbing, and the water made 1 in every 6 people sick annually (and killed hundreds of young children and the elderly on top of that). I went there to research a method of water treatment for the communities there, but I couldn't turn up anything too useful (solar is too situational!).
HOWEVER, the highlight of my trip wasn't the research project, but some of the conversations that I had with the locals. In Canada and America (and to some degree in the UK), if I asked people what they wanted to do with their lives, I would usually get one of two responses:
"IDK" (I fell under this category as well; knowing what you want to do with yourself at such a young age is hard!)
"I will go into this field and make X Y Z money and be rich and live comfortably"
In Kenya, I got a completely different response:
"I will go into this field so that I can help this many people and make my community that much better"
There was no mention of what anyone wanted for themselves, just what they wanted for their country and communities. As my guide pointed out, because Kenya is a lot poorer than your typical Western nation, the people that live there are reliant on each other to go about their daily lives. As a result, the country is very community-focused, and the social aspect is, in my opinion, better than that of Western nations. I really liked this attitude towards life and a focus on helping others, and it has really caused me to re-evaluate my own life goals and objectives.

If you supply a guitar, I will teach you one classical rock song of your choice.
