ABOUT ME
california guy goes to school in chicago. decides he loves the study of learning and the idea of improving it, hence the cognitive science degree. ends up selling out and taking a high-faluting consulting job in Boston. of course selling out involves redemption, which was achieved two years later when said young man quits day job to become a full-time cook. in one of the best restaurants in Boston (in the country, if you ask me), this guy went through a lot (being a kid off the street starting to cook professionally is a tough one). and so here i am, 1.5 years and a few rungs higher on the ladder of life--figuring out where to go next.
down to earth, happy, and a bit quirky. that's my history, at least.
PHILOSOPHY
I live my life for me. Perhaps selfishly, in a truely Objectivist way (see Ayn Rand works for more detail), but I don't do it for anybody else. That said, my friendships and family are sacred. I don't go about making new friends too quickly because I'm so devoted to the ones I have. This all sounds contradictory, but I promise it makes sense to me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
i was in Sri Lanka a couple of years ago. my sister and i had just split off--i was on my way home, and had arranged to sleep at a friend's uncle's house outside of Kandy. after an hour of the driver looking up and down for the house, i finally arrived to a warm family and a spicy meal. something i ate earlier that day, however, kept me up all night, and i ended up in a rural sri lankan hospital the next morning after losing my dinner in the doctor's front yard. all in all, a dizzying 24 hours with such warm and generous people.

Music, Movies, and Books
i have a bookshelf crammed with volumes on cooking; i've been known to enjoy a tom clancy novel or two, but am redeemed by my love of classics, both old and new--from War and Peace to A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
i ran a marathon. truly a mind-over-matter sort of thing for me--my knees will never forgive my mind.
