About Me

I write so many BIOs, and I still hate speaking (writing) about myself.

The professional spew: I am a public health specialist working in medical research, a socialist and activist, the occasional model, a segment producer for a terrestrial radio program - Feminist Magazine - that broadcasts in Los Angeles CA and surrounding areas (and worldwide online), as well as the creator of another radio program Wombanist Views. I am a jewelry and accessories designer, with my own line Eclectic Life, a poet, freelance writer, and author -- my latest book project- "Walking In The Feminine: A Stepping Into Our Shoes Anthology" is set to be released soon. I serve in leadership positions in a number of professional associations -- and yes, it is all quite tiring. I happen to suffer from insomnia often, and I make great use of the time when I am unable to sleep.

More personal: I am a proud aunt to four and godmother to one, a lover of travel and discovery, vegetarian and animal lover, who loves to dance, dance, dance -- or Whine & WukUp as we say in the Caribbean.

Yes, my heritage is from the Caribbean. I grew up in the Virgin Islands, and have roots in the VI (St Thomas, St John), Puerto Rico, Tortola, St Kitts, and Anguilla. Basically my family liked to "stick & move", so my parents, grandparents, and some of my great-grandparents are from different islands. I know that some family members drifted off to other areas as well (Dominican Republic, Panama). A surname check is a MUST for me! Lol.

I have been told that I am an old soul, but I also have a "hot foot" and tend to drive very fast. I also happen to walk, talk, and think very quickly as well. I quietly analyze every statement made to me.

Oh, and I am quite tall, and people like to remind me of this, as I do not realize that. I am 5'11 or 180.34.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am an avid traveler, with an inquiring mind, who prefers cultural immersion and getting to know cool people, and not just tourists.

Also, couchsurfing seems like an ideal place to find like minded people.

Interests

Travel, history, exploring museums, reading--I really do not watch much television, doing arts and crafts-including scrapbooks, did I mention DANCING?

Also, hiking, discussing politics and world affairs, human and women's rights advocacy, decorating, and shopping --- especially in open air markets and places other than a Mall.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like documentaries, films with action, comedies, and some Sci-fi.

I am a Caribbean gyal so of course I enjoy soca, dancehall, zouk, reggaeton, merengue, and salsa. I also listen to some hip hop, r&b and neo-soul, jazz, alternative rock.

I read a LOT, focusing on mostly non-fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Drove from South Florida to Southern California in a 27' Budget truck with my Mitsubishi Lancer on a flat bed tow attached at the back, in about 1 day and 4 hours.

I just wanted to hurry up and get there.

Naps were taken on the side of the road. I am good at driving for long distances as long as there is NO traffic.

I finally went skydiving! (July 2018).

I will finally like to move out of the U.S. the next time that I relocate.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am always open to learning. I think that I travel with the mindset of a student, waiting for lessons along the way.
