About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Fit as much as I can (enjoyably) of the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, the UK, and Ireland into 5 weeks.
ABOUT ME
"Jack-of-all-trades" is something I strive for. If I come across something I feel I might enjoy being able to do, I try my hand at it. This has led me to breadmaking, several musical instruments, coffee roasting, knitting, DJing, and maybe a couple other (dozen) things.
A few of my prime-movers, to an extent, are Learning, Crafting, and Sharing/Collaborating, and the intermingling of these.
I love producing things that blend art and use, form and function. If I can display craft that can be enjoyed on many levels, I feel accomplished. I take pride in bringing coffee from the green beans our coop buys from growers to the latte in your cup that is a pleasure for the eyes, tongue, nose, hands. A handknit scarf I find most wonderful nestled cozily around a friend's neck. I want my casseroles and stews to bring sustenance to a tableful.
PHILOSOPHY
Create. Put yourself into your creation. Give your creation away. Live in the world and of the world. Help others to do the same.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Find yourself in Louisville? Drop me a line; I'll brew you some coffee, show you the best local beer, point you to some fantastic restaurants, let you in on what's going down in town.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
While I've had no official CS liaisons, when I traveled to Germany, Ecuador, and Hong Kong with my choir in high school, we stayed in peoples homes, one or two to each. That was so much better than hotels, as we were able to get real cultural interaction

Music, Movies, and Books
My musical tastes are quite eclectic. I don't love everything (how could I), but the breadth is wide enough, while leaving room for some deep loves. During the summer I listen to a Tribe Called Quest, Talking Heads, and tUnE-yArDs. During the winter I listen to Sigur Ros and Sufjan Stevens. I listen to Hot Club de Paris all year 'round. Raised in a very musical family, I have been singing since before I can remember, and my choral love and experience has continued to this day (and singing Lauridsen's "O Magnum Mysterium" in cathedrals in Mainz is one of the greatest experiences of my life). I can pick or bow a tune (with varying degrees of skill) on my fair share of stringed instruments. I know a few old-time Appalachian tunes, and would love to share them with you, and pick up a few more. I'm theoretically heading up a electrosonic collective under the moniker Starship Captains of Industry.
My favorite karaoke songs are "Come on, Eileen" (Dexys Midnight Runners), "Roxanne" (The Police), and anything from The Darkness' first album or earlier singles.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've played hacky sack on the equator in Ecuador.
