About Me

Chinese Name: 燦華藝
We are a family of 4.5. Myself, Forly (my wife), Elisa, Genji and IxU
EMERGENCY COUCH REQUESTS ONLY VALID IF YOU HAVE READ MY PROFILE AND AGREE TO MY GIRLS.

CURRENT MISSION
Learn the farm life in rural Vermont before moving to Ottawa or Toronto area.
We are looking to move to the Richmond/Burlington area as our first step back from Asia in preparation for our big move to Canada. Never been to Vermont before, and would love any tips and guidance!
We will be in the Burlington/Richmond area from Jan 2023 until some time in the summer.
We would love to meet locals (and local travellers) and hang out, go exploring, go skiing, kayaking, cook delicious food, share stories, play some music! we are really up for anything!

We will be 100% free from Jan 5-12. girls start school in Richmond or Jericho on the 10th. Than us parents will be relatively free until Jan 18th, when our farm training begins. after that, we should still have plenty of time to meet up, but will need to coordinate our schedules.

We all love rate and music. wer are creative problem solvers and love making art, crafts and inventions. we also love to dance and make music.

IxU is a dog. she is Genji's French Bulldog Service Animal, and is well trained and gets along well with others and other animals (cats & dogs) and does not bark. She can sleep in her kennel if needed, but prefers cuddling with people or a soft blanket.

This is (old)!

Please be aware that we do travel with IxU (Genji’s psychiatric-support French Bulldog)

Last TW update: Learned Chinese/Taiwanese in intense immersion in southern TW for two years (To this effect, wifey and I got accepted into NCKU Chinese Learning Center. Studied there 3 months. Very good language program)
During this time, myself, my wife, and our 3 &4 yr old daughters managed to explore some of TW and learn about its cultures and natural wonders. I am an avid cyclist, photographer and chef, and wish to cycle the island and meet people, share stories and dishes and learn new cooking and massage techniques.
Yes I would love for you to show me your favorite little hidden restaurant. or have you invite me on a night photography adventure, searching for the perfect shot reflected in the moonlight. I am happy joining any sort of musical meetup, and can gladly add my Tibetan mouth harps happy twanging (or quietly enjoy the music of others)

ABOUT ME

i was born in Xochimilco, in the heart of mexico city. moved to eugene oregon when i was six, where my parents split up, my father moving back to mexico. i have been bouncing btwn the states and mexico since. moved to Austin TX when i was 12. one of my favorite years of my life was my sophomore year in high school when i went to Germany as an exchange student. i have NEVER spent a summer in the US (usually im in mexico, germany, spain or brazil) and hope never to do so. i LOVE to travel, and take pictures of scenery, but i like to travel more with somebody, so i can share my experiences (otherwise i just write it in a journal). i volunteered with the MST (movimento dos trabalhadores rurais sem terra) in brazil for four months, traveling all over brazil. that was an incredible experience. i felt like i was adopted by one large family (not to mention, the food was exquisite!) i went to Earlham College in Richmond IN, which culminated in apprenticing a pro high fashion photographer in NY! I cycled all around Japan before (accidentally) moving to S.Korea, where i learned that you can make your own atmosphere and group of friends no matter where you are. i most recently lived in thailand where, despite my lack of thai, somehow i was able to help organize a monthly party that is now one of the most popular in Bangkok (and donates its proceeds to different NGOS!-LUSH). A stint in Virginia keeping my mom company (its always good to let your loved ones love you!) restoring Victorian era buildings, doin my thesis on Linguistics (multilingual children 3rd+ language aquisition) and driving a handicapped bus! (i found a pre-civil war musket shot in wood we had reclaimed from an 1820s barn to make the interior doors of the 1847 cabin we r currently workin on. In summary; the world is an amazing place. EVERYWHERE. you just have to seek out the magic.
particulaly excited about finally (after TEN years!) returning to TW, now to share its amazing culture and hospitality with my growing family!

PHILOSOPHY

life is an experience. you can guide it, but at times you just need to make the best of what you get. taking lots of pictures and writing down your thoughts helps. having a little girl with incredible attention to detail point things out, doesn't hurt, either.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

being a constant traveler, i hope to keep traveling and share my experiences with the CS community. i am in mexico city for base periods of time, and greatly enjoy showing off my city to visitors. I Hosted hundreds of CS in Playa del Carmen for a spell (up to 28 ppl, 4 dogs and two cats in my room at one time! the magic of multi-lvl hammocks!), and have always loved sharing mexican (and other) food and music with people around the world.
I will most certainly try to instigate a mexican night wherever I happen to be living (to the level of even launching a Mexican foodtruck in Tainan with sporadic Salsa nights).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

stayed with some awesome surfers in taiwan and went to various parties and meetings w CS ppl. they have been SO much fun and i have met many really cool people! i used to travel through europe leaving my bags in a locker at the train station, in a big city, partying all night, than taking an early morning train to a small city where i slept in a park. i would than travel to another large city that night and repeat. now with CS i have a places to stay, and incredible ppl to party and cook with! (this was before family man carlos)
now. I really havent hosted much since my daughters where born into my arms in a birthing pool in my home in Playa del Carmen. I have, however, met up with a variety of CS here in VA, and had an incredible experience being hosted in NC at a BEACH HOUSE! when we went down to get my wife's greencard. still an amazing community, still would love to keep participating, though i understand its harder with a family. they also enjoy new people!
