About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Connect with folks across the world during a 2-month honeymoon with my new wife. Use this inspiration to improve our communal lifestyle back in our hometown of Kitchener, Ontario!

ABOUT ME

I'm a nanotechnology engineering graduate who is trying to live a life of inspired, critical self-improvement for the purpose of bettering others. I'm open to all new experiences, truly believing that every experience has value that you can grow with. I've been living a community-focused lifestyle in Kitchener, Ontario, sharing a house with my wife and a variety of long and short term housemates. We host events, potlucks, and try to never lose sight of being hospitable and welcoming to others.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe strongly in reason and humility through human connection. Simply put - meeting people is a huge source of wisdom in the world! I care more about forming healthy bonds with people than simply trying to be right about a given topic. Couchsurfing is a great fit for me in that way - meeting folks that surely will think differently than me, but will nevertheless help broaden my sense of all the ways we can think and live together on this global community.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Contribute to the communities I couchsurf in. Host anyone who would like to see my city. Encourage those people I know to join the community when I feel like they could contribute as well!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed in a bunch of countries - Guatemala, across Western Europe, all across the United States, Bangladesh, Japan, and more. Hosted surfers from around the world, whenever I can (Kitchener isn't exactly known as a touristic hot spot, though...!)

Interests

Some of them:
-Intellectual/Philosophical Discussions that sometimes become too abstract
-Exercise, Health, Nutrition
-Temporary communities (Burning Man and similar temporary communities)
-Food (cooking, agriculture, society's relationship with food, foraging plants and mushrooms, food science, molecular gastronomy)
-Technology and our ethical relationships with new technological progress
-Humanity's search for personal meaning through science and religion
-Living intentionally to be of service to others in my home community

Music, Movies, and Books

The Shawshank Redemption, Up!, Wall-E, Arrested Development, Scar Tissue, Cat's Cradle, The Internet - there's a wonderful amount of knowledge on the internet, if navigated properly...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Learning the value of community. Coming to the realization that human relationships are far, far more important than I had previously thought in earlier years. These are both a work in progress.

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy learning from people who are willing to put the work into a discussion, since sometimes it's a bit of effort to get going in a new chat, as we all probably know! I'm happy to talk about all of my interests, and certainly all of your interests!

I'm also happy to talk your ear off about the value of being part of a healthy community, and why that can be so hard to come by in modern life.

Oh, and having been an organizing member of my Burning Man community for years, also happy to evangelize to you about why that place is more meaningful than any media outlet makes it out to seem like ;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

A glimpse into community life in Kitchener-Waterloo. Potlucks, house concerts, and generally all things relationship-focused.

A desire to cook, clean, converse, and try my best to encourage you to come visit Canada and meet some of my community there.
