Singapore in a Nutshell:(there are tons of info on tripadvisor.com & singaporeexpats.com but I wrote a summary mainly which are useful tips to look out for which I couldn't find on travel websites)

Transportation:Taxis get expensive in SG. So try to schedule your incoming flights not from 12am - 5am as buses/trains(MRT) from Changi Airport are all closed.Or else there are tons of buses or MRT(train) from the airport into the city for about $1.50.Ask the Tourist Information when you arrive and they will help you.A taxi ride will cost you about $15-$20 from the airport into the city but good deal if 4 of you and lots of luggage.

To travel around Singapore, take the buses/MRT. Every bus stop has instruction guides/map which tells you which bus to take to go where. A one way ride costs between 70cents to $1.50 depending how far you travel.
The MRT is easier to use as it goes to most places and all maps in English and free copies at stations. If you use the TransitLink card which you can buy from the train station , its much cheaper than paying cash. All bus/train operators speak perfect English and always willing to help.

Lodging:1)There are many hostels/cheap private rooms in Little India (The Inn Crowd, Checkers,Princess of Wales for about 20-25 per night). These hostels are great with free WiFi, breakfast. They are more centrally located but get a bit crowded as many stay there.

If you prefer hostels with more privacy and more space &value for money, try Lavender Street, East Coast Rd(Ferns Loft).

Internet:Internet is free in most Starbucks/McDonalds/Fast food restaurants. There are tons of internet shops in Little India or in Peninsula Shopping Centre(about $1/hr)

Food/Drinks:There are all types of food available everywhere.
1)Hawker centres - this basically host a collection of different food stalls - generally a meal costs $2-$5 (but do be careful as some of them are known to overcharge tourists. Ask before you order.)
2)Food Courts /Fast Food - McDonalds,Burger King, PastaMania,Subway etc - average price about $3 - $10

Night Life Entertainment:Going to night clubs in Singapore is very expensive.Entering a night club can cost about $20-$30 with one drink. Bars around Clarke Quay usually charge about $15 a beer. Thus its best to purchase beers/alcohol from Cheers, NTUC,7-Eleven,Sheng Shiong (a big local supermarket) and preparty before you enter such bars. This stores are available everywhere and you are allowed to drink in public. Usually you can buy much cheaper beer/entire bottles of liquor from small shops in Little India which are everywhere. On weekends, its common to see many groups of friends just sitting along the Clarke Quay river and the bridge and having their parties outside with their beers.

Many bars in Boat/Clarke Quay have happy hours until about 7pm so its much cheaper drinks before the crowd comes in.

Dodgy Partying:Do be careful if you choose to enter bars which have "call girls" waiting outside ushering you in.You can spot them easily. Most of this bars are located around China Town/Little India/Geylang area. They have hidden charges which you see only when you get the bill and the bouncers get nasty if you don't pay.Call the police immediately if any harm.

Cigarettes are very expensive in SG. A pack of 12 cig costs about $12

Medical Aid: If you fall ill, you can visit clinics all over the island though a bit pricey. The consultation is about $20 and medicine about $20 too. You can visit
what is called polyclinics which are cheaper about $20 in total as government subsidized. Common medicine for cough/colds etc can be bought everywhere in convenience stores

Nearby Islands: Usually its good to take a 1 or 2 day trip to nearby islands like Batam, Tanjung Pinang, Pulau Tioman. This Indonesian islands are much much cheaper and great for sea sports, cheap partying etc

Police: Singapore is a very safe place but many things do happen. If any problems at all, call 999 or immediately look for a police post. The police are very helpful, dressed in blue and usually patrol partying nightspots etc.

PHILOSOPHY

Be honest and sincere about anything you do.. People can see through fakes very easily

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host Couchsurfers visiting Singapore in my home and are always glad to bring them around Singapore to view interesting sights as well as the hidden tourist attractions. Some hidden tourist attractions are going to the neighbour hawker and wet markets, Wakeboarding along East Coast beach and many more..

I participate in the weekly events that are posted on CS like weekly gatherings.

I also organize and post interesting events like concerts at Esplanade, tours to interesting sight seeing attractions in Singapore

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My Couchsurfing Experience has been really great.
I really enjoy hosting people from all over the world and showing them around Singapore.

I think its a lot more fun to be travelling around Singapore with somebody that knows the place well rather than staying in an overpriced hotel or hostel and it can get pretty lonely walking around Singapore.

Singapore can also get pretty expensive and there are a fair share of people that will try to cheat you if they know you are a tourist and unaware of local prices etc

I have lived with some CS's ers when I travelled to Russia and Europe and I must say its a lot more fun staying with them than in some lonely hotel.
