About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Finding my way around D.C.

ABOUT ME

Been in DC for over a year and still finding my way around! Previously I did a stint teaching English in Seoul, Korea and recently moved to D.C. to join the Foreign Service. When I'm not playing wannabe diplomat, I'm indulging my love for photography and artwork. If you want to start a long-winded conversation, just ask me about photography...I'll never shut up :)

PHILOSOPHY

My single greatest desire in life is to live it with as few regrets as possible. There's a lot of great things to be done in life, and I for one hope to experience mine to the fullest.

To paraphrase Mark Twain: "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the things you did".

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't host or surf a great deal, but am very active in the local CS community and attend meetups whenever I travel.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only surfed a couple of times, but have always had a blast in the process! I also basically lived on a friend's couch for a month while in college. I return the favor by giving him a place to crash when he visits.

Interests

Travel (obviously), photography, art, literature, skiing/snow sports, live shows, music, good beer. Not necessarily in that order.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have broad tastes, but tend to listen to a lot of indie/underground rock, old-school punk, and various random semi-obscure bands. Lately I've been getting into more edgy electronic music for some reason...

Music:
Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, The Flaming Lips, The Cure, The Clash, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Kings Of Leon, The Smiths, Bloc Party, Robert Miles, Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem.

Books:
Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance, Vagabonding, On The Road, In A Sunburned Country, the Thursday Next series, The Kite Runner, Reading Lolita In Tehran, Lord Of The Rings, The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, The Catcher In The Rye, 1984, The River of Doubt, When You Are Engulfed In Flames, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Tuesdays With Morrie.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Here's two:
* Swam with a baby shark
* Stared down a North Korean border guard

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a somewhat multi-talented person, so I'm sure there's something I can teach or help out with! Here's a few:

Fixing things - Being an engineer, I'm pretty good at this, particularly computers and electronics.

Art - I have been doing various forms of art for years and always have a sketchpad nearby. A simple pencil and paper is my preferred medium, although I sometimes work in ink as well. I also know a little bit about digital media, and am familiar with Photoshop and Illustrator.

Music - I can teach you guitar or give you some pointers if you'd like...
