Overview
About Me
Recent college graduate opening up my apartment to travelers before I move to the NC coast at the end of September. Open to hikes, beer, swimming, and good conversation. I'm an introvert and find that hosting travelers forces me to get out of my comfort zone and be more social.
"Certainly a man should travel." Voltaire, Candide
I spent a lot of time exploring Europe, but I seemed to take the US for granted. I have recently, remedied this with a 7000 mile Coast-to-coast road trip. This country is beautiful. Sadly, a few ugly people ruin it for the majority. The good thing is that I'm an optimist, so I know things will change.
Veteran. I spent ten years in the Air Force. I think US foreign policy has gone bat-shit crazy, which leads me to where I am now, out of the military and going to school at UNCA for environmental biology and ecology.
I love what I'm learning, and I hope to use my education to play some part in protecting the Appalachian mountains. These mountains are magical, and I feel a strong connection to them.
PHILOSOPHY
As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives. Henry David Thoreau
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
CS is a brilliant idea. I wish more people would catch on and share a bed, couch, meal, or even a chat with someone new.
I host whenever I'm not busy with school. I have a couch and air mattress that are available for surfers.
Contact me if you love hiking, camping, or swimming. I enjoy drinking the amazing beers Asheville has to offer, and I'm always willing to share a few of my drinking holes with new people.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've hosted several people while living in Asheville, and I've surfed a couple of couches.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like stoner rock, 80s new wave, indie, just about any type of music that isn't on the radio. I can tolerate just about everything.
I enjoy watching independent films, black and white, and quirky comedies. Some of my favorites are Stray Dog (Akira Kurosawa), I <3 Huckabee, Apocalypse Now, Naked Lunch, and any short from Jan Svankmajer.
Textbooks consume a large portion of my reading. I'm okay with that.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I just completed a 7000 miles cross-country trip through the United States, which took me through 15 states and numerous national/state parks. I even experienced a winter storm in New Mexico, of all places.
Getting lost in the labyrinthine markets of Marrakesh. Spending my days in the beautiful mountains of Asheville and jumping off of 30ft cliffs. Hiking the Isle of Skye in Scotland.
