About Me

I've lived in Paris, Aberdeen (UK), Eugene (Oregon), Preston and Derby and am happy to share recommendations in and around those places. I studied French and Anthropology at the University of Aberdeen (graduating in 2012) and worked in the charity sector until December 2016.

My girlfriend Jenny and I are currently working a winter season in the Aosta Valley in Italy, then we plan to move to Edinburgh, so we are not currently able to accept guests.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Mostly for a bit of local advice. I also really like telling people about lovely places I've discovered. There is so much information on the internet but sometimes there's no substitute for a personal recommendation from a like-minded person.

Until recently we were able to host occasionally for short (1 or 2 night) periods, hopefully will again when life settles down!

When we are accepting guests again the following will apply...

Please only request to stay with us if you are genuinely travelling and/or passing through for a night or two. I've had a few requests where people are just looking for a free bed before settling into my hometown permanently or on a longer term basis - this makes me a bit anxious as I want you to visit, have a great time, explore and then (in the nicest possible way) leave! I don't want any awkward situations where I end up feeling guilty for making you homeless by not wanting you to stay on!

Interests

Lots of last minute trips camping around the UK in our little campervan. Jenny and I also try and hit a museum or theatre once in a while. We're doing a MOOC at the moment on 21st Century Museums.

We both enjoy a bit of crafting every so often. For example, after a trip to Barcelona we took a trip to our local market to find some old plates to smash up and make into a pretty mosaic...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being taught some Ugandan Sign Language by Deaf kids at a school supported by the charity I work for.
Sat on an elephant's head in Nepal.
Seen the sun skim the horizon in the Orkneys.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If I can find supplies locally I'm happy to bring and share dinner or brunch. I've lived in Paris, Aberdeen (uk), Eugene (Oregon), Preston and Derby and am happy to share recommendations in and around those places. I have some interesting tales about travelling through my work with a Deaf charity too. Love a game of scrabble, Dixit or banagrams if common languages allow!
