About Me

Hello! My name is Chris, I’m a 30 year old Australian guy taking yet another career break to travel the world. Ill be starting in Africa for 9 months, and then we will see where things go.

I like to pursue all things interesting.

I’ve worked as a university lecturer in international affairs / foreign policy; a scuba Divemaster in Malaysian Borneo; and for the last five years I’ve been an advisor to the former Australian Prime Minister. It sounds like a disparate mix, but these all are aimed towards one end: seeing and understanding more of the world.

I have no itinerary for my travels - just to read, write, photograph and paint my experiences around the world.

Anyone willing to open up their house to me, or to share stories about their life and lived experiences around the world, would be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to meeting as many people along the way as I can!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived on a remote island in the Celebes Sea for 7 months alongside the Bajau Laut Sea Gypsies (https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2018/04/bajau-sea-nomads-diving-evolution-spleen/558359/). These guys can drop to the bottom of the ocean without weights, and have evolved to be able to hold their breath for up to five minutes. I lived alongside them while I worked as a Divemaster.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have taught undergraduate university classes at a global top 50 university, across subjects ranging from foreign policy to human rights, digital media control to peace and conflict studies.

I am also a published photographer, and my spare time is (frustratingly) spend in a woodshop building furniture
