About Me

My name's Chris, I'm 25 years old, and I'm going to be traveling around the U.S. with my good friend Laura for awhile! I'm interested in alternative/sustainable lifestyles. I lived on a farm for the first 8 years of my life but moved to the city with my family, where I've lived most of the rest of my life. Laura and I served a ten-month term with AmeriCorps NCCC-FEMA Corps in 2013, where we traveled the country with a team of 9 and supported the Federal Emergency Management Agency's disaster response, recovery, and mitigation efforts. I learned so much, got to meet many interesting people, and got to spend my time helping others prepare for and recover from natural disasters. I kept a video blog during that time -- feel free to check it out at http://femacorpschris.blogspot.com/

In mid 2014 I came back to Tennessee, where I've been working as a tech support advisor for iOS devices ever since. I'm really good at troubleshooting iPhones, iPads, and iPods so I would gladly help any hosts resolve issues and get the most out of their devices :)

Laura and I are now going to be WWOOFing in various places throughout the U.S. and are very excited to continue traveling and to keep meeting new people! We will be looking for couch surfing opportunities all over the country this year.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on couchsurfing because I plan on spending 2015 traveling around the country working on organic farms to gain new skills and learn from a variety of different people. I will be WWOOFing -- learn more at wwoof.net -- so will have room and board when I'm on a farm, but I will need places to stay/camp in between farms that I stay at and would like to meet people along the way! I was inspired by Peter Jenkins' book "A Walk Across America" in which he describes his own journey across America.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In May 2013 I took shelter from the widest tornado in United States history.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a lot to teach -- I am really good with computers and technology in general, I enjoy teaching people to carve, and I also enjoy teaching people about iOS devices. I can teach you just about everything there is to know about iOS, iCloud, iTunes, etc. I'm interested in learning about your gardens and the food you grow. I'm also interested in learning camping/backpacking advice because I'm fairly new.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook a few things (fried egg sandwiches are my specialty), I have plumbing experience and can make minor repairs to your sinks/tubs/toilets, and I can also help you set up electronics. I'm a good listener and can serve as a neutral party if you have issues you want to discuss. I'm also very good with troubleshooting and problem-solving in general.
