About Me

My name is Chris and I'm a 28 year old male who lives in New Orleans with my girlfriend Katalina. I currently work for the state in education serving Orleans parish and Katalina is a hair and makeup artist. I grew up in Jacksonville and attended FSU for my BA and my MS. Katalina is originally from NYC and we serendipitously met in Tallahassee. I have two large (and ill behaved dogs) that take up a lot of my time/energy/affection and my basic belief is that you've got to be kind to all people and animals.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to host! I've only been able to travel once and experience couchsurfing from the opposite perspective, but hosting allows me to bring the world to my living room. I want to show people what my life is like and let them have a glimpse into my world. I've been an active member of the site for the past 4 years, but unfortunately, after a recent divorce, I've had to create a new and independent profile, so I don't have a lot of references yet. I want to meet people who are non-judgmental, appreciate a good beer and the accompanying conversation!

Music, Movies, and Books

It's hard for me to pick a favorite album or artist, so I'll throw out a few albums that are important to me: A Tribe Called Quest - the Love Movement; Little Brother - the Listening; Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline; Gil Mantera's Party Dream - Once Triangular; American Football - Self Titled. Mostly I listen to soul, funk, hip-hop and some electronic music, but I grew up on classic rock, late 90s emo and indie, and some punk/hardcore/sludge, etc.

My favorite movies are Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, City of God, Hands on a Hardbody, Rize, and Barry Lyndon. I watch a lot of documentaries!

My favorite books are Gang Leader for a Day by Sudhir Venkatesh, Hocus Pocus by Kurt Vonnegut, Rolling Nowhere by Ted Conover, Robbing Drug Dealers by Bruce Jacobs, and To Have and to Have Not by Hemingway.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I made it through my graduate degree; it took me so much patience and hard work but it was worth it

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you all about Florida history, Criminology, Sociology, Pop Culture, and American sports. I love to overload my guests with strange music, movies and relics of American culture that are different than what they might expect.
Katalina can teach you about fashion, hair and makeup, music, and vegan cooking.

I'd love to learn more about places I've never visited, about your culture, about you (my host or my guest!). To me couchsurfing is about the exchange of ideas and about making friends.

Let's share some good conversation

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a polite and respectful guest who will never want to feel like an intrusion. I enjoy meeting new people and experiencing different ways of life. I will be open-minded and eager to learn.
