Overview
About Me
I am a retired Army veteran. I have a what my sister calls a cosmopolitan background. By this she means that I have Ben in different cities and exposed to several different cultures. While I did kind of grow up in Kansas City Missouri, I also grew up in Germany (it was called West Germany at the time) and San Antonio Tx. I am a liberal minded person with an awareness of the entire globe and an appreciation for the uniqueness of each of us. I try not to judge but will confess to falling short at times of that goal. I am 420 friendly, do not drink anymore since 2008 but I'm not above sharing a beer on occasion. I don't do drugs anymore besides the pot but I have done my share in the past. Don't let this put you off as I said before, because I don't do any of that stuff anymore. I only mention it in the interest of honesty and full disclosure. The benefit of my past Discretions is it it's made me a better person today and I can better relate to those that are less fortunate and have been unable to overcome their addictions.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on Couchsurfing in the hopes of finding like-minded people that might like to join me in my walk from Kansas City to the West Coast, specifically Eugene, Or. I am going to make the trip with or without a companion but my preference would be to have company for all the good reasons that should be obvious.
Interests

Music, Movies, and Books
Being a product of the 60s and 70s my musical taste tend to favor what's called classic rock and roll. Movie and books I prefer to be comedic or factual but also have a soft spot for good science fiction.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I don't know if by amazing folks mean amazingly stupid or amazingly brilliant. I've done plenty of the former but I'm not sure I've ever done anything in the latter category. After this walk I'll definitely have something to put in it.
Teach, Learn, Share
My degree program that I never finished was to be a teacher so I do love to teach. In my employment history, I was often The Unofficial official trainer of the organization. Due to my age and varied experiences, I've seen a lot and been through alot from marriage to divorce, fatherhood to burying a child, business owner to homeless and unemployed. As for learning, my grandfather always told me that the day I stop learning is the day I start dying. Well, I'm not ready to die so I haven't stopped learning and I truly appreciate young people teaching me stuff I thought I already knew. Lastly, being a liberal and having lived and traveledin Europe, I have a keen understanding of the benefits to sharing and I think the world would be a much more pleasant place if we all did more of it.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am not currently looking for a host but in the event this changes all I can offer is my respect for your home, the gratitude for the hosts generosity and my labor. I am a proud man and believe I should do what I can to not be a burden to my fellow human beings. So, having limited financial resources I offer my labor and time.
