About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learn German, settle in in Germany, do science, see European metal bands.

ABOUT ME

I'm a 24 year old physics student from Australia, currently studying in Tübingen, Germany until September. I'm into metal music, exercise, good food and good conversation. I'm a noob at the German language presently, but things are improving!

I've never travelled much before, but while I'm here I'm taking the opportunity to move around a little and check out bits and pieces of Europe, mainly on weekends. In particular I have some music gigs and festivals I'm planning to attend, but I also want to visit some of the old European cities and just generally explore. Haven't thought much more specifically than that, suggestions welcome!

Some other random stuff about me:
I'm a fairly avid runner, looking to do my first half marathon about a month from now. I also do a bit of cycling and am a noob at swimming (I admittedly only started swimming because I was too injured to run :p). I play guitar, snowboard, sometimes do computer programming for fun, and enjoy a good philosophical debate.

PHILOSOPHY

I don't believe in any kind of purpose for life, so I live my life however I want with the aim of making it as fulfilling as possible for myself and everyone I care about. This seems to work pretty well! I'm always striving for self improvement and I hold myself to high standards. I like having a balance of a small number of close friends as well as acquaintances, and good friends mean a lot to me.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

(see below)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

At my share house in Melbourne we hosted many couch surfers and had a great time meeting people and showing them around. Often took people up to the Dandenong ranges to show them the local wildlife and sights. This was all done through my sister's couchsurfing account, but I'll track some of our surfers down to see if I can link their reviews to my profile too so I don't have a completely blank reputation when I come asking for your couch!

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite music genres include melodic death metal, symphonic metal and related metal sub-genres, but I'm pretty chill about listening to whatever. Musical elitism shits me.

Favourite books and movies always end up being sci-fi, I'd list them but it would end up looking the same as every other list of people's favourite sci-fi, so I won't :p.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Oh gee, I dunno. Most of my achievements are slow processes, like learning to understand quantum mechanics or to play the guitar. These are the sorts things I derive the most satisfaction from.

Listing any particular thing of the 'I went and did/saw thing X' would seem to totally diminish the simpler things in life that add up to much more awesomeness in the long run. Like simply stargazing on the beach far from the city and noticing a hole in the sky where there are no stars. Turns out there's a freaking massive black nebula. It takes up a bigger patch of sky than the moon, but I'd never noticed it before.

But one day I'll beat that steam train in a race to Emerald (Victoria, Australia), and then I'll probably write that in this little box. Damn it Puffing Billy, you're just that little bit too fast for me! I'll get you next year!

Teach, Learn, Share

If you want to know anything about physics - quantum mechanics, cosmology, or whatnot, I'm always happy to yammer on about it indefinitely!

Would love to be around German speakers to be able to practise some speaking - mine needs tons of work!
