About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel. Learn. Grow.

ABOUT ME

Solo traveler constantly striving to improve my limited knowledge of the world, its people and environments.

PHILOSOPHY

On the liberal side, libertarian in some respects. Live and let live. Just want to get along and learn as much as I can about the lives of others and their local environment & culture.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As a host: I like to help surfers enjoy NYC and feel welcomed and informed. Happy to cook, share stories, and practice languages. As a surfer, I'm happy to contribute to the host's household duties, help with cooking, and give insights into life as a hearing-impaired person trying to remain independent.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None as yet.

Interests

Nonfiction books, mostly history, biography, science, economics.
Trying to learn at least 1 foreign language fluently (currently Spanish).
Basic conversational fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
Parkour
Hitchhiking (haven't done it outside of Africa a few times but would like to try it more extensively, even in the developed world).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Quit my job, moved to Uganda for 6 months to volunteer in Mental Health outreach, where I also:
learned to ride a motorcycle by borrowing bodaboda taxi drivers' motorcycles.
hitchhiked or rode atop commercial trucks to move around the country.
Encountered amazing people who helped shift my perspectives and some of my life philosophies.

Teach, Learn, Share

Insight into hearing-impaired person's life experience. Unsure whether I have many hard skills to teach, but have a few tricks here and there.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Cooking, insights into perspective of a hearing impaired person, English language practice (but hopefully also their own language). Sign Language practice. A real interest in my friends' / hosts' life experiences.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Liechtenstein, Nicaragua, Rwanda, Switzerland, Uganda

Countries I’ve Lived In

Switzerland, Uganda, United States
