About Me

Hello,

My name is Chris and I'm a freelance writer from Los Angeles, CA, but based out of South America the last few years. In that time I've written guidebooks about various countries, including Colombia, Argentina, Chile and Brazil.I've been traveling steadily since 2005 and love meeting new people and immersing myself in new cultures.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first used Couchsurfing in Bariloche, Argentina, in 2014 and have had some great experiences with it. I've gotten to know some great people all across the South American continent, and I hope to continue doing so in other parts of the world.

Interests

I'm pretty easy and low-maintenance. Aside from travel, I'm mostly content sitting down with a good book. Since my job demands a lot of writing, that also means I'm at the computer a lot.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have many favorite books, but in the interest of keeping things brief, here's a quick top-5

"One Hundred Years of Solitude"—Marquez
"Prisoner Without a Name, Cell Without a Number"—Jacobo Timerman
"1984"—Orwell
"Never Let Me Go"—Ishiguru
"The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle"—Murakami

As for music, I enjoy rock and blues. Also, after spending so much time in Argentina and Colombia, salsa and tango have earned a spot in my heart.

I don't see too many new movies, but I have my favorites: The Godfather, Citizen Kane, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Pedro Almodovar movies, Goodfellas, Casino, Lost in Translation, The Endless Summer II, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Romancing the Stone, Big Trouble in Little China, Being John Malkovich, Pan's Labyrinth, Pulp Fiction, City of God, and too many more to list.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Paragliding over Chicamocha Canyon in Colombia was pretty amazing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm happy to talk culture and learn as much as I can about whatever city/country in which I currently find myself. I also like to cook, and I'm always up for sampling new wines in the great wine-producing countries of the world. I'm also happy to enlighten hosts as to the great complicated mess that is the United States.
