ABOUT ME

Hi there. Well I'm a fun loving guy, admittedly a bit of a geek. I used to live in Egypt for about 8 years, now I'm based here in London, until Sept 2015, where I will depart and head to my motherland of Colombia.

I'm generally a happy guy, I see myself as an optimist, and my friends tend to say that I'm usually full of positive energy. I've learnt to see the lighter side of life, and to make the most of any bad situation. I try to count my blessings and make the most of my life. In the end we have only one life to live, no point dwelling on the negatives. As the great Barney Stintson once said "When I'm sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead. True Story" haha. (No he's not a role model, but he has a point)

I guess being on here it's obvious to say I enjoy travelling. I love seeing new places and experiencing new cultures. I love the stories countries and cities hold, little secrets that someone might miss on a daily basis. (For example I just recently learned that when entering the city of London, it is marked by dragon statues).

As I mentioned earlier, I have a geeky streak, Star Wars not Star Trek for me, Tolkien, fantasy. A a multiple platformed gamer. Table-top gaming. And overall encylopedia of the most pointless facts (When you go to buy a clock, the hands usually point at 2 and 10, to appear as if it is smiling.) However, I am sociable!

Other than that I am passionate about music, with an eclectic taste, ranging from 50s Crooners to Power Metal, from Latin American music to 90s pop music. All depends on my mood. All time favourite bands: Blink 182, Foo Fighters, Sonata Arctica. Only music I can't really sit back and listen to is Electronic. I always try to make some music, self-taught guitarist, dabbling writing, and attempting to sing.

I'm currently attempting to make a small YouTube channel to express ideas, and I guess primarily make a travel log. I'm in the middle of editting my recent trip to Barcelona, but it's been slow progress. But I will post a link here once it's done.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Well, I believe it's a great way to meet new people. I'm international myself and want to meet many people from many different places. A close friend of mine has used couchsurfing before, and has told me great stories, so I've very keen to get involved.

I'm also a keen traveler myself. I've travelled around Europe a bit, and now planning a big coast to coast US trip, before ending up in Colombia where I'll be moving to.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I was fortunate enough to have hosted one person from Mexico, who actually arrived and took part on my birthday. Now I am looking to go out and explore what it's like to be hosted.

I recently got to meet other surfers at a CS meeting in Boston. Absolutely amazing group of people.

Movies: LOTR, Marvel, Hero, Anchorman, Monty Python, Life is Beautiful, Constantine.

Music: Like I wrote earlier I got an eclectic taste in music, but here's a list of all that comes to mind in 5 minutes (yes I am timing this):

Blnk 182, Sonata Arctica, Frank SInatra, Dean MArtin, Aretha Franklin, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Micheal Buble, Grteenday, Dragonland, Carlos Vives, Fonseca, AcDc, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix, Louis Armstrong, Cartel, RHCP, Simple PLan, Owl City, Grandaddy, Guns and Roses, The Pretty Reckless, Incubus, Bruno Mars, Eminem, Slash, Rise Against, QOTSA, Queen, Jason Mraz, Epic Rap BAttles of History, David Guetta. Plus more... (It's harder to write under pressure.)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The first thing that comes to mind is climbing Mount Sinai to see the sun rise. I was staying in Dahab- Egypt for a week to escape the city. I met up with some friends there and we decided to do the climb. We were taken to the base of the mountain, where there was the monestary of St Katerine, at around 1am, and begun the climb under the light of the moon and stars. Now I say climb, but there was winding path that led to the summit, which we reached at about 4 am. And we sat there on the top, cold and tired, mangaging to get bit of sleep, just before the sun rose.

When it did it was breath taking, you could see the surrounding mountains, and you can really appreciate the beauty of it all. It was so peaceful, and made the whole climb, and sitting on the cold rock, worth while.

If anyone happens to be in Sinai, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you're visiting London, I know a good few secret spots, places to eat, and a bit of a walking encyclopaedia, so I'll make sure you have a good time.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Hopefully I can offer good company, I'm a decent cook. I believe I have perfected the recipe for a Spaghetti Carbonara. I'll try almost anything once.

I love deep discussions about life, the universe, faith, science. I have an interesting background that has encouraged me to be open to new ideas, and I find discussions with many different peoples help the mind grow. Oh and I am far from easily offended, I'm pretty easy-going.

=============Hosts in the US =============
Potential Hosts,

What I would like to do while travelling across the country is not only connect with you, but also connect my hosts with each other.

One idea I have, is that for the host I am with and I will either get something unique to the city or to our experience together, and attach a message to it to be passed on to the next host. And this will continue as I travel from city to city. Because if I am right in my understanding that this community is to connect people from all over the world.

In addition to this, while I travel, I am planning to make a travel vlog, that would be posted on YouTube. I sincerely hope you would like to get involved with that. If you don't like to be shown in the video, that's fine too. :)
