About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to meet, hear, smell, see and taste other cultures and people of the world.
ABOUT ME
well, i finally got sprung from that conservative job in the heart of capitalist babylon, nyc. thank you crashing economy, thank you. jumped off to find the next chapter of my life. i remember my surrogate father's question to many strangers he'd meet: "how many careers have you had?" we'll all see friends. i'm traveling alot now. right now still living alone in Hudson Valley and crashing in Manhattan when I need to, trying not to scatter life force energy in a streak up and down the MetroNorth RR Hudson River Line. i was very dedicated to yoga and healthy living but have to find myself again. funny how I was more conscious of that while trying to cope with Manhattan and now have lost the discipline. music is a necessity for me. indian classical raga to african tuareg to navajo to jazz to hiphop its all good if Spirit resonates real and up front.
PHILOSOPHY
is there meaning that lasts beyond the moment or is the moment all that there really is. is it 'be here now'? do we stand still as time rushes by or is time still and we're rushing through it? i think actions reverberate from the past, through the ages, both our own and our tribes, our genetic sound tone, as we vibrate in the present and into the future. where does it go? is the melody in tune with good and love or is it disjointed, disharmonious. is the karma good? do we/i really know anything or am i just self hypnotized?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Before CS stayed alot with family or friends on their couches, hostels, b&b's, cheap motels, high end hotels or on the sand. i've stayed now or met other couchsurfers and had great experiences meeting people. one missed experience was trying to get on a bike tour with the CS people in Paris a year or two ago. i was unable to do it in the end because of something i did but the guys running it were extremely gracious.

Music, Movies, and Books
so much music i can't list it all. one of the most awakening was when in 1971 i heard a vinyl record of ali akbar khan playing "shree rag" and he moved the note around so long up and down the fret board that i almost got dizzy. i'm listening to radiohead right at this very moment. was listening to Tito Puente and Eddie Palmieri immediately before. nothing like salsa to get one up in the morning. although i also like to listen to Rag Bhairavi in the morning. after so many times the rag is different and i have several peoples' recording of it.
movies: i like alot of them too. if its a genuine. Most recently i found a DVD of a Japanese film: "Yaji and Kita, the Midnight Pilgrims" (not sure that is the real Japanese title but it's the English one) that was a great surprise that it has so many levels. i like documentaries alot but also can get down with Hollywood like "Beverly Hills Chihuahua". but then "Dr Strangelove" and "Apocolypse Now" are genius too. There's a great documentary about Fela Kuti called "Music is the Weapon" that is great. and i keep watching the original of "3:10 to Yuma" for some reason. "Milk" phenomenal and I thought "JCVD" was interesting as well.
books: the internet has interrupted my obsession with books. too much to read and see there. but i've read alot over the years. most recently, nonfiction. maybe its the times. "The Fate of Africa" by Martin Meredith (a must read for anyone interested in the current state of the world). "Lawrence In Arabia" brought the current crisis in the middle east into focus. "The Nowlans" by John Banim, a novel first published 1825 in Ireland. "Spaced Out" by Alastair Gordon, a wayback cruise to the '60's counterculture of my youth. And funny the phrase I had written about a different book before on this profile ("it reminded me of so many of the ideals i had and brought again to me that i hold them still.") applies to this book as well but now the depression of seeing how all those lofty ideals have turned out in this fractured screwed world.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
going to india for iyengar's 80th birthday was amazing. being at the volcanos in hawaii and maui were amazing. being on the beach is always amazing. africa, impossible to describe fully. the sahara desert is amazing. being with the dying, reverberates through space and time constantly and is perhaps the most amazing thing since i haven't experienced the birth of a child.
Teach, Learn, Share
i know less and less every day but i can share my knowledge of design and politics because i think that design is an expression of a time and place and circumstance and is not totally an aesthetic expression. i can share my love of food and animals and building and home and garden and words and sound.
What I Can Share with Hosts
our time, stories, food and a little home repair and gardening.
