About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Organize my tools and find time to use them

ABOUT ME

I'm somewhere near the long transition to adulthood. I have a partner, a couple of kids, have bought and sold a house and have been educated thoroughly.

Over the last decade I've gone from playing the role of the seeker to that of the builder. I used to be the one looking for the new place to explore, the new people to meet and the couch to sleep on. Now I'm looking for those folks to come to me and accept my hospitality.

I work for a non-profit that sells used building and household materials. In the past I've worked in green and/or natural building, energy efficiency and the solar industry. In my free time I like building things with reclaimed wood, photography and reading about sub-cultures I didn't knew existed.

PHILOSOPHY

Right now I'm oriented towards building; whether that be making things I need, constructing playful environments for my kids or helping grow the organization I work for.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would like to participate by hosting travelers as they're making their way through Ithaca and the Finger Lakes.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

While passing through Guaymas in the Mexican state of Sonora, a man on a yellow moped called out to me. We talked a bit and he offered to show me around. We rode his moped up and down the hills around town looking for the best view of the sunset over the Sea of Cortez. In the evening we went out drinking.

He claimed to be the city's unofficial poet laureate and said he had recited for two Mexican presidents. He introduced me to many of his friends, including a former professional wrestler.

He had dreams of turning his home into a hostel and let me stay in its under-construction state. In the morning, I bid him adieu as he stood on the sidewalk in his boxer shorts reading some of his more politically-charged poetry.

Music, Movies, and Books

I've read many books in my life, but now I mostly read Harper's and the New Yorker, Annie Proulx novels and non-fiction narratives that seem epic in scope.

I listen to: public/community radio stations, the country tapes in my truck and the multitude of mix CD's my friend Tim makes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

"The conception, cloning, gestation, birth, and ever spectacular unfurling of increasingly incomprehensible moments that ascend into the becoming of my identical twin daughters." as written by my partner, but it fits me too.

Countries I’ve Visited

Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua
