About Me

ABOUT ME

After many years in DC and NY, I moved to LA (with the encouragement of my gf, who moved with me) to pursue my passions. I'm now working toward my PhD in History, living in a great neighborhood, hiking, biking, eating delicious food, and loving life with my soulmate. I'm a music lover and record collector. I focus on North African music in both my graduate program and in my collecting but have some diverse musical interests that I would be happy to tell you about. I travel as often as possible and dream of one day going to Indonesia.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm an incredibly positive person. You could say that positivity is my mantra :) I feel incredibly lucky and try to take everything in stride.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Traveling, meeting, hosting - CS has been such a positive experience!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had only the best experiences on CS. My girlfriend introduced me to it a few years ago when we surfed in Nashville. Probably the best way to learn a city and meet some great people. When we started our new lives together in LA, we drove across the US and couchsurfed along the way. We were always welcome and met some of the best people. CS really helps you learn the meaning of hospitality.

Interests

All sorts of outdated media forms, music, record collecting, hiking, biking, running, going to the beach, trying new foods and probably lots of other things I'm forgetting.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Lots of favorites! Everything from Casablanca to Midnight in Paris.
Music: Pretty eclectic...from Otis Redding to Cheikh Mwijo.
Books: I mostly read non-fiction but dabble in good fiction from time to time. Michael Chabon, Gary Shteyngart, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Fording a river in rural Morocco by walking across a fallen tree and discovering a little paradise lost. Mud-brick villages, fresh fruit at every turn, and some incredible goat with local elders.
