Music, Movies, and Books

~MOVIES~
WOODY ALLEN.
Cohen Brothers.
City of God.
Amelie.
Musicals.
Disney.
The History Boys.
Ben Stiller Comedies.
=> As you can see from the above list, it's a big mish-mash, but you get the drift... <=

~MUSIC~
=> Again, it's a big mish-mash, but I generally listen to indie rock such as:
-The Cribs
-The Fratellis
-The Arctic Monkeys
-Postal Service
-Blocparty
-The Killers
-Meese
-The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
-Coldplay
-Razorlight
-Kings of Leon (only by the night)
-Muse
-The Beatles
-and more

oldies:
-Frank Sinatra
-Ella Fitzgerald
-Nat King Cole
-Billie Holiday
-you get the gist

Jazz, 'classical' (Baroque in particular- Bach), 90s pop (:P), diva classics (Whitney, Mariah), D&B (Pendulum, Shapeshifter, Concord Dawn), Kiwi classics (Exponents, Bic Runga, some Crowded House)- the list goes on really... I guess you'll have to talk to me for more details!

~BOOKS~
I don't really have much time to read these days, but I do enjoy a good book when I have the time. Sadly the most reading I do these days is dictated by essay requirements... However, the last book I read was The Historian, which I found brilliant.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Close tie between the following:

1) Jumping out of a plane 15000ft in the air straped very tightly to a stranger I had met only 20 minutes prior and bestowing complete confidence that he will pull the chute at the right time to take us both safely back to Earth.

2) Jumping off a bridge 43m above a fast flowing river with an elastic rope tied to my ankles by compelete strangers I only met 5 minutes prior. Could not feel any support from the elastic at all but had to bestow complete confidence that it will keep me from hitting the rocks in the river below.

The above do have one big thing in common though- New Zealand

Teach, Learn, Share

As a traveler, I love seeing places for more than just their tangible properties. The essence of a place needs to be discovered through its people- the lifestyle, the traditions, the culture- only through experiencing these can you truly discover the world. This is why I love the concept of couchsurfing. It helps to put us in contact with a dynamic community of people with whom we can share a world of culture and knowledge. It shows us the way through doors which we would not otherwise even know existed if we were just your typical, snap-happy and detached tourists.
