About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be Happy

ABOUT ME

I like being busy and I like being still.
I'm no good at balance.
I am an optimist.
I want to expand my travels and meet new people.
I don't believe in regrets.
I am spontaneous, which probably has a lot to do with my short attention span.

Most of all...I want to hear your story.

PHILOSOPHY

One major philosophy: No regrets.

One major motivation: To make a difference in individual lives.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've surfed twice, both great experiences. And have also used members as a contact for information about the area I'm visiting.

I've hosted once. I hope to host again!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only been on two couch surfing experience, but the hosts were wonderful. Very accomodating and flexible.

Interests

I'm interested in living a healthy and active lifestyle. That being said, I love to hike, skate, bike, run, be outside. But I also like to sit and read, write, draw, or watch TV. Professionally I'm very interested in individuals with significant communication impairments, ask me about it if you are interested.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music --- I listen to almost everything and tend to go through fads. Right now my favorite Pandora stations include: Maggie Rogers (seriously check her out, she's amazing) and Chance the Rapper.

Books --- I enjoy nonfiction typically, I really like to hear personal stories, but am also enjoying some fiction. I definitely read more during the summer than during the rest of the year.

Movies --- I'll watch most things at least once. Though I'm not big into SciFi. I'd rather watch a Netflix produced show - they are pretty well done. Currently watching Narcos.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This is no longer ONE amazing thing, but I've made this my place to chronicle my travels. Enjoy if you'd like, skip if you'd like. :)

One exhilarating thing that did not involve travel was bungee jumping on my 20th birthday.

One of my favorite trips, summer 2009, involved driving with Holly through the Appalachian Mountains, whitewater rafting, and getting horribly burnt on the beaches of South Carolina.

I was in Washington D.C. (January 2009) for a college course the week before Obama was inaugurated. Very interesting seeing the setup and hearing about how the city was "different" for the event.

I've visited New Orleans three times, once pre Katrina in high school for a band trip (Spring Break 2004?); once post Katrina for relief work (Spring Break 2007?). And once recently to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers (Oct 2012). All had their highlights.

Summer 2012, I took my first solo trip to the East coast, where I went to Camden/Rockland, Maine and Boston, Mass. It was fantastic to have a self directed trip.

Over spring break (April 2013) I helped a friend move from Wisconsin to Southern California. It was a fantastic road trip, which also featured a pit stop in Vail, Colorado.

Summer 2013, my friend/roommate Steph and I did a Magic 8 Ball Tour. We spent 5 days traveling based partly on if the Fernando (the Magic 8 Ball) said yes or no. We ended up in Wyoming before our timeline required us to turn around.

Summer 2014, my friend Holly and I took another roadie out East. We visited the largest amusement park with roller coasters in Ohio, then stopped in Philly for some historical sight seeing, and last to New Jersey to step in the ocean. I love the ocean. :)

Summer 2015, two girlfriends and I spent a weekend up in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Go Packers! We karaoke'd, toured Lambeau Field, and enjoyed a little local culture.

Spring Break 2016, Matt and I flew to Texas to visit friends. We flew into Houston where we took a quick detour to Trinity Bay, drove to Harker Heights to see friends and my god daughter, and through to Austin for some outdoor fun and music before heading home.

Summer 2016, my good friend was studying history in England, so myself and another friend decided to visit her! We spent time in Leicester, Dover, Bath, and London (England); but also made time for Belfast, Ireland; and Edinburgh, Scotland. We did a lot of hiking, castle tours, and museums. It was a wonderful trip. I learned so much about the history of various cities and generally more about traveling abroad since this was my first trip out of the country! :)

Winter 12/27/2016-1/1/2017 , Matt and I went to New York! We did a lot of touristy things, including Statue of Liberty (via ferry), Empire State Building, Flat Iron Building, Central Park, New York Public Library, Times Square (not on NYE though). We took a Gondola ride into Manhattan and walked on the Highline; of course saw the One World Trade Center and the Memorials for the Twin Towers. We enjoyed some the Upright Citizen's Brigade and a Broadway Play. Matt's friend from high school showed us his favorite spots in Astoria and we became relatively proficient at using the subway. Happy 2017!

March 2017 - Matt and I camped in Indiana - Hoosier National Forest and stayed with a good friend of his in Indianapolis. Indianapolis is a really neat city with a lot of different things to do.

Summer 2017 has been a fun adventure!

June 2017 - Holly (THE best road trip companion) and I road tripped down to Texas to visit a friend. We stopped in Arkansas on the way and visited their national park and tried our hand at mining for diamonds!

July 2017 - I successful completed my first ever backpacking trip in Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior. It was one of the most amazing trips, complete with many pages of reflections in my journal as well as a moose sighting! Thanks to the most wonderful coordinator Greg for arranging and planning a majority of this trip!

August 2017 - Matt and I camped up in Door County. This was the second time I've visited the area, but it was filled with memorable hikes and the sounds of the lake crashing near our campsite at night. It was a very relaxing way to bring in the end of my summer.

March/April 2018 - Holly and I again travelled down to Temple, Texas to meet our friend Missy’s newest crew members - a little boy and a little girl added to the mix to make three kiddos all together.

August 2018 - Matt and I travelled to La Fortunate and Puerto Viejo in Costa Rica. Wow was this trip amazing! It was nice to get both a mountainside and beachside experience. We are some of the most delicious food, learned a little Spanish, did some sweet hiking and swimming. We also went horse back riding and zip lining.

July 2019 - Honduras! This was quite the trip. A good friend of mine, Stephanie, has decided since the adoptions were finalized for her two kiddos it was time to return to Honduras to show her little family where she started scuba diving. I was lucky enough to accompany one of her daughters down and get the privilege of staying with her family for just over a week. First we were on a farm in the country with all sorts of livestock. We milked cows, fed pigs, and made chocolate. Then we went to Roatan! Here I snorkeled and scubadove for the first time, ate tons of baleadas and fruit. It was awesome!

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn about people's experiences. I find that people come into your life for a reason and I want to find out what that is.

I will share what I can. I am motivated to produce and reuse. :)
