About Me

I'm always looking for new friends and new things to learn in new places to discover. And if I can help you out, I am happy to do so in any way I can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Last summer I went backpacking through Europe with little preparation so I ended meeting all sorts of different people and sleeping in parks and in front of train stations. I love to tell these stories and have fun meeting new people, especially when traveling by myself I am happy to make new friends.

Interests

I like to drink coffee or beer with friends at nice places. When traveling I am happy to meet new people and visit the areas locals go. Since a short while I own an analogue photo-camera with which I try to appreciate my surroundings more by taking my time. I study architecture and the built environment and I love that and all things connected to that: cultural phenomena are included of course. In short there is little that I don't appreciate.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a broad spectrum of musical preferences, but I enjoy occasional hard-rock and classic metal, next to deephouse and techno. Besides that I love 90's and 00's dance but old school hiphop is very nice too.
I recently bought Led Zeppelin IV, Beastieboys' solid gold hits, Nas' Illmatic and Philip Glass' Koyaanisqatsi soundtrack on Vinyl.

Latest movie I enjoyed was La Grande Bellezza but I enjoy a horrible action film from time to time as well. Studio Ghibli is a producer of nice movies too and I like an occasional art-house movie of sorts. Beside that I like movies that use the decor (fake or existing) as a means to set a mood or support the story in another way, I like blockbusters as well (sometimes because they tell a good story, sometimes because it just entertains me).

With books I'm an absolute disaster as I can't seem to finish one for the last few years. One of the few books I did finish was the Plague by Albert Camus, The Chosen by Chaim Potok, 1984 by George Orwell, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, but of course also the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy and some others. Books I am still reading are Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en, Johnny got his gun by Dalton Trumbo but also numerous architecture books including S,M,L,XL by Rem Koolhaas, Life between buildings by Jan Gehl and The Image of the City by Kevin Lynch.
