About Me

I am a Masters student in Economics living in Kiel, Germany. Previously I lived in Zürich, Switzerland for 3 years and am originally from the Northeastern US. I am fairly fluent in German and Spanish (although a bit out of practice with the latter). I can also understand and read French and Italian, but am quite out of practice with speaking.
I have a lot of interests and hobbies but am very laid back. I love to laugh and try new things. I drink a lot of coffee, read a lot of books, listen to a lot of music and do a lot of sports.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel, meet new people, learn new languages, help people with languages, etc. I am always up for new and interesting experiences.

I find couchsurfing to be a better way to experience local life and culture than staying in a hotel or hostel. I prefer to meet locals and learn more about day to day life in different countries than only visiting tourist destinations (although I enjoy those as well).

Interests

I love hiking skiing and mountaineering and have recently gotten into sailing. I love sports, especially Ice Hockey and Soccer. I also try to run, cycle or lift when I have the time and motivation.

I also enjoy reading and love to get book recommendations in other languages as it helps me learn.

I love music of all kinds and play guitar as well as a little bit of piano and a tiny bit of drums.

I also like tech stuff and in my spare time try to fiddle with and make something cool with my Arduino and Raspberry Pi, and have recently started (trying) to write apps for Android to work with my Arduino/Raspberry Pi projects.

As a consequence of my love of travel and my love of documenting it, I have also become a fan of photography. And finally, as a lover of food, I also enjoy cooking and eating.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to do language exchanges. I am a native English speaker who has done some English teaching, but I can also help some with German and Spanish. I'd also like to meet more people to practice German with in order to maintain my fluency as well as someone to practice Spanish, Italian or French with in order to regain my fluency. I'd also love to learn Swedish or another Scandinavian language. I spent some time travelling around Norway, Sweden and Denmark in the summer of 2015 and fell in love with the land, language and people!
I love to get and give new book recommendations as well as discuss them after reading.

I also love to ski and have worked as a ski instructor, so I would be happy to share my limited knowledge.
I just generally enjoy meeting people and sharing experiences so I'm willing to teach and share any of my interests that people find exciting.
