About Me

Hi! I'm a friendly person, quick to smile and laugh. I like hugs, being sincere, reading, board games and craft projects. I enthusiastically discover new places, but enjoy doing so at a slower pace than mainstream tourism allows. I work on a small sustainable farm one day a week as I learn about farming/gardening, and I love the feel of soil in my hands. I play ultimate frisbee, and my team made it to US Nationals this year (woohoo!). I greatly enjoy small relaxed dinner parties at home where you talk late into the night.

I'm half Danish, on my mother's side, and have lived in Denmark for two different three-year periods. I love it there, and I also love the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Both places are beautifully green!

I'm married to the most wonderful person I know, Rigel. We've been together six years and I couldn't be happier in our loving relationship. I hope both of us get to meet you someday!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

First of all, I just love the Couchsurfing concept. It makes so much sense! The best way to experience a place is to see it through the eyes of its people, and to be able to do so cheaply is just a dream come too. Then there's the whole equity/karma aspect....give and receive equally.

This year, I want to introduce my husband Rigel to Denmark, and we decided to make an adventure out of the trip!

First we'll stop over in Iceland for a few days (because IcelandAir makes it so easy), then we'll meet up with a lot of family in Copenhagen for a reunion of sorts at the beginning of the trip, then bike around the country for two months or so.

Interests

Reading, Ultimate, Games, Hiking, Arts (drawing mostly) & Crafts (sewing, knitting, making rock murals - you name it!), Good Food (though I'm not in any way a food snob - I just really enjoy a good meal), Dancing (swing and blues especially, though I've done a little salsa, tango and contra in my day)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I like oldies (the Beatles, Aretha Franklin, the Temptations, Motown) and have always had a soft spot for Aerosmith and Ani Difranco. Take that mix as you will :)

Movies: Since I was a kid my favorite's been The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) starring Errol Flynn, so feel free to peg me as a hopeless romantic. I also like action/adventure/fantasy/sci-fi movies, from the LOTR trilogy to Star Wars to X-Men, Star Trek and Avatar. I enjoy Disney movies without shame while also appreciating more serious films like Crash, After the Wedding (Danish), Good Will Hunting, A Beautiful Mind, American History X, etc.

Books: I've been a book worm ever since my dad handed me a copy of Oliver Twist one day when I was a bored 11-year-old. I love Jane Austen, Dostoevsky, and fantasy novels in general (some of my favorite series being: LOTR, The Codex Alara by Jim Butcher, the Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman, Kushiel's Legacy by Jacqueline Carey, and A Song of Ice & Fire by George R. R. Martin). I've had The Name of the Wind (by Patrick Rothfuss) sitting around my house for years now, but I don't like to start reading a series until it's finished because I hate waiting between books - I feel like I forget important detail about the world. I know, I know, don't ask about the Song of Ice & Fire series....I was tricked into starting that one!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm either too boring or too modest to think of something good to write here.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach Danish, crafts, dancing or ultimate to anyone who's interested!

I'm always interested in seeing how people have made good and happy lives for themselves. Oh, and I love to cook good food!
