About Me
Hello, I'm Christine!
I've been off couch surfing for a while, but I'm back!
Two years ago I bought a house in Burlington, where I've lived for 15 years–and it's expensive. I rented it out for April and May 2024 and I'm traveling around the south and southwest to save a little money. Last fall I quit my nonprofit marketing director job to freelance full-time, so I'm also experimenting with working remotely while traveling.
It's crazy coming back to Couchsurfing after all these years and reading the reviews from people who hosted me and people who surfed at my house. Why did I ever leave?! This platform has resulted in so many incredible experiences and connections.
I love connecting with hosts, but I'm also an independent person! I know what it's like to want to host folks and give them a whole beautiful experience, but life feels too busy. I'm traveling with my bicycle and working from the road. Feel free to leave me to my own devices and I'll likely bop around exploring on my bike and post up at a cafe to draw for a while, and I'll be happy as a clam. But if we get to cook breakfast together and swap travel stories and talk about your life in your town, that's wonderful, too!
"If you have two loaves of bread, do as the Greeks did -- sell one and with the coin of the realm buy sunflowers."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've hosted a lot in Vermont and I've surfed in Montana, California, Texas, Quebec, New Mexico, and Louisiana.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Oh, too many to name. Becoming friends with return surfers and beer-bike enthusiasts Max and Tony from Quebec has been a blast, and now I stay with them and visit their brewery when I'm in Quebec City.
What was supposed to be a three-day surf with Cheryl and her family in northwest Montana turned into living in a truck camper in their backyard for a month and a half and becoming part of the family. I consider Cheryl a close friend and have visited multiple times in the past 12 years.
I've hosted so many folks in Vermont, and every experience is so different but so wonderful in its own way! People are magic.
Interests
Hiking, camping, riding bikes, bike touring, illustration, making zines, cooking meals with good people, gardening, backcountry skiing, campfires, building community resilience, working with my hands.
Some days traveling look like an all-day adventure outside or nonstop exploration, and some days look like posting up at a cafe and knocking out some work. It all depends on my energy levels and what I have in the mix!
