About Me
well, who am i? Definitively not the guy who steals your couch after sleeping on it ^^
I grew up on the countryside of switzerland, and spent a lot of time in nature. My first travel trip brought me to chile, where i got first impressions of travelling and hostel live. Years later, i went to New Zealand and to the tourist crowded east coast of australia. I realized, that the typical bakckpacker style, with dirty cheap hostels, pub-crawls, rushing trough a country and making selfies with "hug me" trees, wasnt my type of travelling.
So when i went to ecuador, i worked the first time in "workaway* projects, which i really liked!
On the galapagos, i worked on a reforestation project, where we planted native plants, got rid of invasive ones, looked after the garden and fed the animals. In the jungle of Ecuador, i helped an indigenous community from the shuar tribe with cooking, planting yucca, and give some english lessons to the kids.
So after this, i found out a bit more, what i like, and i hope, i can expand my experiences now with couchsurfing ;)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
WHY DID I CHOOSE COUCHSURFING?
I never tried it before, but i saw a presentation from a guy who did couchsurfing in Iran, and i thought: WHY NOT? The good thing about staying in hostels is, that you get to meet lots of people. The bad thing is, that theyre all tourists like you, so you will always travel like a tourist, you will always be a stranger on the place you are, as long as you experience it from the outside.
So i would like to experience the places i go from the inside, see the little things, that make the culture special, the daily life problems, the food, the markets, whatever. Whenever i go somewhere, i want to speak the local language, at least some phrases of it, that makes your stay a lot more authentic.
I think, the most important thing about travelling somewhere, is not just to SEE everything, i try to actually BE there (got it? :) )
Because of this, i think, Couchsurfing is a good way to get closer to that aim.
