About Me

Hello! I grew up with an international mindset, having lived in Paris and Brussels as a young boy as my family moved around with my father's work with BP. We also had an international family, my Nana was Italian and her brothers and sisters moved to Argentina, while my mum came from a big Scottish family. I've always wanted to travel and have been lucky enough to live in South Africa, Germany and Morocco as an adult. A couple of years ago while teaching in Oxford, I met Jenni who works for the RAF. I've moved to Buxton, her home town, and our dream is to open our own businesses. Jenni would love to open a Hostel in Buxton for travellers, while I am hoping to open a Summer School in Oxford.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We had the opportunity with our working lives to take some time out together to travel, so we took it! I recently finished my teacher training, and will start work in January, while Jenni recently left the RAF as a regular to pursue a new career and work on her own businesses. We are both looking to pick up work again in January 2019 so have decided to travel around the world! We are on a budget though, and part of our destination decisions have been dictated by where we've known people. We've stayed with friends in Singapore and plan to stay with family in Adelaide before seeing more friends in Texas, Mississippi and Boston during a cross-state road trip. Along the way we are hoping to meet people with local knowledge, and what better way than through couchsurfing?

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything by Danny Boyle film wise, although I would say I have broad tastes in film. Music wise, I would say the only music I've never really been able to get into is Hip Hop and Reggae (perhaps I need a lesson?). My favourite bands historically have been the Beach Boys, the Beatles and, as a teenager, Muse. In terms of books I have liked the classics, though am recently very into Paul Theroux travelogues. My dad has made me read countless books about WWII, one of his passions, but I also really enjoy a good Sci-fi novel.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I jumped out of a plane once! That was pretty exciting!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to share a great lasagna recipe if anyone is interested? Also I have a bee in my bonnet about making chocolate fondant spring rolls but I need someone to test recipes on...
