Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While ever once in awhile I enjoy the quiet comforts of a hotel or the nonstop energy of hostels, I've grown more to like the authentic connections a person makes when staying with a local and seeing a country through their eyes.

Plus, I'll admit it. I'm frugal and try to operate on a small budget when possible and couch surfing helps cut back costs.

If I can travel without feeling so much like a tourist and save some money while doing so, then I am a happy man.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently started a haiku book to commemorate every hiking adventure I have. I ask everyone in the hiking party (and sometimes perfect strangers) to write a haiku that capture's their experience. It has been an incredible way to gain insight into my friends and the journey from their perspective and has had the added benefit of creating a stronger memory of the beauty we see than if I had simply taken a picture.
