I am an Englishman living in Changsha, China. I moved here in September 2017 and I am still teaching there, even after a year teaching online from the UK! I teach Finance to undergraduates at a joint college on a campus in Changsha. My Chinese is very basic, but I am learning. Safe to say my English is very good : )

Prior to the pandemic, I was lucky enough to travel around south Asia, and also to Kenya for a month volunteering and tourism. I'm hoping to stay in China for many more years, maybe move city, definitely hoping to learn Chinese proper, and travel as much as I can!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

NOTE: I am living on a University campus with higher restrictions for guests than other places, and cannot host at this time. I can, and very much want to, meet travelers and CS enthusiasts in the city!

I love to mingle with travelers and have had great experiences hosting in Wales, UK, between February and June 2017. I then moved to China and have been able to host quite a lot of people!

If you're passing through Changsha or here for a couple days wondering what to do and what to eat (when in Hunan, you must eat the spicy Hunan food!), then I am around. Just message me and I will try to get back to you asap.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

That i could not think of one amazing thing I have done means one of two things. Either I have not done one amazing thing in my life, or that i have done many amazing things and simply see them as ordinary. I will fill this box by saying that the simplest things can have "amazing" effects.

I know a bit about a few things, but I can't claim to be very knowledgeable on any particular subject. I know the UK, I'm learning about China, and my area is Economics. I love salsa dancing and could teach that!

What I Can Share with Hosts

As stated above, I cannot host and don't intend to travel much now I'm back in China.

But if you're living in Changsha or passing through and want to meet, then we can practice language, I can bake a good cheesecake (!), I am very knowledgeable of the area even though my Chinese is poor, and can help you get around and find places.
