About Me

Hello!

My wife and I have been together since 2010 and got married in 2014. We live on the north side of Dallas and enjoy probably the best location in the North Texas area. We a minute drive from two major highways which allows us immediate access to the popular places in the area.

Both of us are really into the outdoors. We usually take one or two large trips during the year while several small trips in between keep our wonderlust engaged. We know all the great hiking locations within 3 hours of our apartment. We are always camping, hiking, canoeing. Whatever is outdoors and engaging.

Recently we got into board games and now have a huge collection of board/card games with play frequently with friends. Games like Settlers of Catan, Splendor, Ticket to Ride, Love Letter, UNO, Pandemic.

Usually we work 9-5 during the week and are free most weekends and evenings. I'm a student so my schedule varies from semester to semester. I'm studying electrical engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas and hope to graduate around Christmas or Winter of 2017. I do a lot of math, electrical circuits, a little programming, etc.

I work at Altex while I'm in school where I do custom cables. Somebody can come in and ask for a bunch of CAT5E/6 cables, coax RG6, or anything crazy. I also do basic circuit board repair by limited diagnostics and replacement of basic components.

My wife's job is property management. She is the manager of a 200 unit apartment property in Farmers Branch (15minutes) where she is constantly dealing with residents, budgets, etc.

We have a dog, that I usually feed at 06:00 and walk several times during the day. If you sleep on my couch, you will hear him in the morning eating (he can sometimes make weird sounds, lol) or doing whatever. He won't bother you when you sleep, but he loves attention when your awake. He's the love of our life and we spoil him rotten. He gets a million walks and toys and pumpkin in his food! He's our little fur baby.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Since we can't travel to foreign countries all the time, couch surfing is a way of bringing a foreign country to your home. My wife and I are here to exchange stories, culture, and laughs. We're also here to make friends and establish a foreign couch we can sleep on some day.

Since we started CS and have had a few people stay on our couch, we love it! It's so cool to show somebody your life and they actually find it interesting, haha! I guess people generally find Texas (or Dallas) culture interesting (instead of our simple lives, lol). We went to Sweden in May of 2017 and realized how different things are, so when people come here its cool to see what they think is a big difference.

Plus you get to make great friends! We've already made a few life-long friends. It turns out we've met two of our CS in their countries, and it was so nice to have someone you already know and trust.

Interests

We are really into outdoors! We've been on long canoe trips, backpacking, camping, hiking. We know all the good local spots for whatever activity you're into. We'd be happy to take you to some of our favorite spots or just give advice about where to go.

I spent most of my free time learning Swedish. It's become a huge part of my life and my biggest hobby. I have Swedish ancestors (I think I'm 4th generation Swedish-American) and a fairly Swedish last name. I spend 10hrs a week since September of 2014 reading, watching, listening, and researching Swedish related activities.

My wife is really into movies! She has a great love for old movies like All About Eve and a few others she'd be happy to tell you about. She knows all celebrities and news and she's always up-to-date on whats going on.

Music, Movies, and Books

I recently have been enjoying Fleetwood Mac, and The Shins are a favorite of mine. My wife enjoys pop much more while I enjoy older music (50's & 60's) along side blues from all generations.

I've recently been on a classical book binge:
Catcher in the Rye
Grapes of Wrath
East of Eden
1984
Animal Farm
Swiss Family Robinson
Tarzan of the Apes
The Last Man
Treasure Island
The island of Dr. Moreau

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been backing in Colorado, canoeing in Utah. My wife and I have had a few canoe trips together. I've rode my bike from FT. Worth to dallas when I was younger. In April of 2016 we went to big bend and I hiked 25 miles in one day (3kft elevation gain).

Teach, Learn, Share

I am happy to share any of my electrical expertise. I repair circuit boards at work and I'm super handy around a computer or a home theater system. I am happy to talk math, derivatives, integrals, Maxwell, etc.

I love learning languages or prices of languages. I like know everything I can get about a culture.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share Texas food, any of my skills, my knowledge of the area (including hiking and camping areas). Free wifi.
