About Me

I grew up in Long Beach, lived all over the US of A, most recently in Mammoth Lakes, CA. I am currently job hunting in the Long Beach vicinity. I work in the engineering field in multiple disciplines. I am recently separated, and searching for housing. I am friendly and social, but I am also good at being quiet and minding my own business. Most people would call me truthful to a fault, but in the same breath they would say I am as loyal as an old dog. Babies are fascinated by me, and dogs love me. I pride myself on being clean, and leaving the place better than I found it--even campsites.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

First and foremost, I was told by a dear friend that c-surfing had been a positive and enlightening experience with many opportunities for interesting acquaintance and lasting friendships. That makes my heart beam. Secondly, I am currently in need of short term lodging while some of the details of my failed marriage are vetted out. I am excited to experience the unknown. I always have been. I think only interesting people would open up their homes to perfect strangers. I'm sure of it.

Interests

I am into music (all kinds), sports (all kinds), outdoors (all kinds--I know, huh?), and cooking (ditto.) I also enjoy traveling (I've been to Mexico, Canada, Ireland, Portugal, and Australia, and nearly everywhere in the US of A...) Music is my main interest (I've been to New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival 3 times.) I love soccer (Arsenal fan) and hockey (Go Kings Go!!) I also dig hiking and snowboarding. And eating. I don't eat a lot, but when I do, I make sure to thoroughly enjoy it.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite music might be the toughest question I could ever answer. I like everything from Louis Armstrong to Social Distortion, from Toots & the Maytals to John Lee Hooker, from Willie Nelson to Daft Punk. I love talented musicians from any genre. Movies would include Apocalypse Now, Forrest Gump, Pulp Ficton, the Godfather series, the Lord of the Rings series. I don't watch a lot of flicks, but if it won or was nominated for an Oscar, I probably like it. Books I enjoy are anything by Stephen King, Kurt Vonnegut, or Oscar Wilde. X-Men comics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't know how to quantify the word "amazing", but I spent 6 years going to magnet schools. Does that count? To me, "amazing" means astronaut or something...I don't have that in my forte. I went to school with Snoop Dogg, Cameron Diaz, and Willie McGuinest. Not amazing, but unusual, methinks...

Teach, Learn, Share

I have lived in the Rockies, the Deep South, the Midwest, as well as places like Austin, Texas and Brooklyn, NY. I married a Persian woman, but that recently became unraveled. I have built airplanes and houses, cemeteries and mausolea (yeah, that's the plural), and designed fixtures for Whole Foods. I have a vast knowledge of music (so I've been told) and I am able to speak on more subjects than most. Very schooled on most sports, too. Played soccer and volleyball.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can go deep on many subjects. I love bantering about other peoples interests, especially when I have limited knowledge of the subject. I'm pretty spongy. I love to learn about different cultures, and share what I have learned. I can flat out cook. Not cocky--I just know how to make food taste good. I can speak, jazz, blues, funk, punk, rock, reggae, bluegrass and just about any other type of music. My Klezmer could use some work. I understand country gibberish (it's a talent, trust me...)
