About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to create adventure wherever I am, even the places I've been a thousand times before.

ABOUT ME

I am an adventurer and storyteller. I have been gathering stories and making adventure happen wherever I am for the past decade or so and I wish to continue my journey.

My heritage is Navajo and I hail from the Navajo Reservation in Arizona where I spent my youth herding sheep and cattle and growing crops. I learned many ancient legends by the campfires under the brilliant AZ starry sky.

We moved to bigger cities as I grew older, ending up in Flagstaff, AZ. Certainly not the biggest city in the state by no means, but still the biggest thing in my life. I foolishly (and unknowingly) retired from my story-gathering life during my high school career, believing instead the advice of the teachers who didn't believe a career in storytelling was lucrative. I fixed on math and science, avoiding the more interpretive subjects like history and arts. I worked at a burgerking as an assistant manager.

I quickly began to be fed up with that life. I hated my job, I hated school, I hated staying home, I hated my place in life. Then an angel in the form of a friend invited me to live in Oregon and the next stage of my life began.

For the next five years, with new people to get to know and new places to explore, I submerged myself in adventure and storytelling as I had a whole new audience who knew nothing of the stories I had gathered more than a thousand miles away and a new setting where my soul could drink in the incredible beauty of the world. But I still hadn't taken the title of storyteller or adventurer yet. That didn't come until I moved back to AZ.

The Grand Canyon was calling and I had to answer. Many native tribes of the southwest area, especially the tribes surrounding the canyon, have countless legends of emmergence that say that we as a people climbed out of the earth to begin life on the planet. I went to explore the Grand Canyon to find that spot.

When I came out of the canyon after a three day hike I realized what my life was about. I quickly took up the title of storyteller and adventurer and have been cultivating that identity ever since.

PHILOSOPHY

Life, love, truth, justice, peace.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have stayed at a wonderful host's house and I realize how important a site like this is. I am now planning on becoming more involved in my community but I'm not sure how just yet.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first 'couch' was at Newport in Oregon. I was biking down the coast and she took me in during a storm. She offered me vegetable soup and put me up in my own room. The next day was my birthday and the sun was high in the sky. I'm sure if she hadn't been there for me my trip would have been a lot shorter. Nanci, you saved my trip. Thank you.

Interests

I am an adventurer and storyteller. I strive to live a life full of friendship and noteworthy experiences and I wish to share this with as many people as I can. Wherever this life takes I wish to fill it with friends, stories, and adventures.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once I got caught in a flash flood in the Grand Canyon. We were three days in the Canyon and it was raining the whole time. There was a space of clear sky when we reached Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the canyon and I decided to watch the sunset on the beach of the Colorado River. Then I heard a noise like thousands of thunder claps all stacking on top of each other and raising and volume all the time. The flood was not enough to brake the banks but the river rose 12 feet. After the flood rushed through we enjoyed a double rainbow spanning the rims of the canyon. It was still a two day hike out.
